It was phenomenal! Pick-up was sensational but I still felt kinda of a lag of when punching it and was told that that was to be expected on MBs, which i believe becuase ours and my aunts and everyones I know does it. We spoke to our salesperson for a quick second and he gaves us a rounded figure of 90K with nightview assist which I couldn't believe but took his word for it...

We'll see when it comes time...

That slight perceivable lag is from the Drive By Wire Throttle. Its normal for many cars that have DBW, as it helps with gas mileage and many other things.

Mercedes all the way!
actually, MB_Fanatic, i don't think it's a function of DBW: more to do with MB's tuning of the system. i've driven several cars with DBW that do not have this "feature". there are also several tuners who can disable it by a software reprogramming.

just because it is "by wire" doesn't mean it would be slower: for e.g., SBC is brake-by-wire but most people think it reacts too quickly.

I drove the S550 yesterday and I was pleassantly surprised. I was expecting to dsilike its looks; however, the car looks better than the pictures. The first difference in the feel of the car came when I opened the door. They're not as heavy as on the current model--they didn't feel cheap, but less vault-like. The seats IMO are better--softer/more comfortable. The car I drove did not have keyless go. There is no console gear selector. Instead, there is a stalk behind the steering wheel (picture dad's old buick) which is slid up/down to move through the gears. I can be pushed and held to go straight to drive. The new engine is smoother and reminiscent of a Japanese car-- pleasant. The coolest feature that I saw was the park assist system. From what I could tell, the system which incorporates a rear view camera to help drivers navigate into tight spaces. It will tell you if you've turned the wheel too far to get into a space and uses colored zone or proximity lines.

Voice control is standard and activated using a button on the steering wheel.

Overall the car is a nice step up from the current model and I hear pricing will start aroung $85k

that'd be because they're made of aluminium instead of steel, IIRC.

So now that we are able to build the S550 on the website, with Premium 3 its states MSRP at 95K. I've been quoted 90K...I guess the second figure doesn't hold too much weight now, huh?
