Black Opal? Help pls...
I might order a S550 but I will be waiting till P3 package will be available. However, I am curious how Black Opal will look like. Does any one have pics of cars in that color? ThankS!

189 Black Opal
Someone asked whether Black Opal was the same as the german green black. Check the codes. If they are both 189 then they are the same. It might be they are the same as the US name for 189 is Black Opal, german name is smaragdschwarz. I agree though, the color is more blue/black than green/black.

Interesting point - 189 is the code for Black Opal Metallic.
An old source that I have lists Emerald-Green as code 189.... But I have not needed to confirm that source's accuracy on more than two or three colors.
Doesn't necessarily mean that they haven't changed or updated the codes (although I couldn't see them doing that as over the course of time it would get really confusing, which is the whole point in assigning paint codes in the first place!).
I have seen Emerald Green, and other very dark greens and green-blacks -- and other than the black-level, they look nothing like Black Opal Metallic....

wouldn't "green black" more likely match the now-EOL'd "Jade Black" that one of the folks on the e55 pictures thread has some stunning photos of? it's like a green "capri blue", if you know what i mean. beautiful.
black opal is a dustier deep blue that looks like black that needs washing in certain light conditions. it's a great blue/black, though, that's for sure.
