W221 S-Class Official Picture Thread
The Best of Mercedes & AMG
30 or 35% (can't remember) bronze ceramic tint on all glass except the front. (Local shop - $200.00) I live in Florida, wouldn't even consider driving it without tint. Love the look anyway. Would have done it even in Chicago. The tint is not as dark as it looks in the pictures.
Lowered 1" on all four corners. I used the links ((http://www.adjustableairride.com - $300). Once you get the hang of what you are doing, its a snap. Tech support is awesome!. Easy to change and play with the various heights. You'll need at least a jack and stands. Love the slightly more aggressive stance of the vehicle. Wouldn't go much lower, starts getting a little too ghetto for my taste. The change in the feel or the ride was barely perceptible.
20" AMG wheels. (Ebay - $1600.00. Sold a set of 19" AMGs from a 220 I had for $1500.00 - Net cost to me was $100.00) Again, the change in the feel and the ride was negligible. It might not be for everyone, but I love the look of the wheels and the height. It changes the car's attitude and handle. As for going with 22s, I personally don't like the look and the potential problems are too many. 20s work for me!
Small lip on the trunk. (Ebay - $130.00+) Still not sure about this one. Some days I like the look, and some days I don't. Wouldn't be surprised if one day I woke up and it was removed. In the meantime, I'm OK with it.
Debadged (Did it myself - $0.00) I like it a lot.
Clear side marker lights. (Ebay - $40.00) Again, I like the look much better than the amber lenses. My preference would have been no markers at all. I know, only in Europe :-(
Resonators off. (Local muffler shop - $100.00 inc. tip) Awesome deep throaty sound from a cold start. Slight low rumble on idle and at normal speeds, barely noticeable but I hear it and I love it. Totally different when you open her up. It might not be going any faster than before, but she sure sounds like she is.

I hope this write-up helps anyone considering any of the mods I did. If you have read this far and you have been keeping track, you will have noticed that I've spent under $1000.00 to get a lightly modified/personalized 221. While not a big deal, it is an accomplishment this forum deserves a lot of credit for. Everything I did started with information from this forum. Thanks to all that contribute!!!
By resonators off, do you mean the center muffler or the two rear mufflers at the bumper?
You need to remove three plastic screws from the front of the wheel well plastic cover, the first three from the bottom. You also need to remove three screws from below. Once these 6 screws are removed you will be able to gain access to the inside of the fender and you will have enough room to get your hands in there and release the lens. Don't try it from the front (like the 220s used be able to be done) you might break something, or worse yet scratch the car.
By the way, order the silver colored bulbs that light up in yellow. This will keep the mod legal and it will prevent the "egg yolk" effect that the yellow bulbs create inside the clear marker/lens.
Good luck.
Awesome looking cars people !!
