AMG S class??
Hey guys I have a quick question. Today while I was at work I was checking all the exotics flying by my starbucks on PCH and I saw a new S class..but it looked a little different than the others that I have seen. I look at the back of the car as it drives by and has the AMG badge on the back. So do they already have the AMG version of the new S class out yet???

It was just a new S-Class owner who purchased some AMG badges to make it look like an "AMG" S-Class. The AMG package doesn't get an AMG badge and the S63 isn't out yet, unless you saw a S65 AMG very, very early, being driven by some MB exec.

I doubt if you saw a real AMG S-Class this early, especially the S63. They wouldn't be testing it out in the open like that. It would be in camo. Now the S65 hmmmmm... its about 4-5 months away so all I can say is hmmmmmm could be but I doubt it.

AMG badging on sport pak cars
I think it may be a very recent phenomenon, but I've seen an E320 with the AMG sport/appearance package, which includes twin tailpipes and cool rear valance (single outlets rather than the '55's dual-twin outlets) and all the other AMG bodywork, and it was badged "E35" with the AMG badge on the right edge of the trunklid as well.
I also saw a e350 wagon with the AMG appearance package the other day... thing looked exactly like my e55T, and probably cost about $40k less!!!
Isn't it sort of typical Mercedes (look at last year's S class w/ all the AMG appearance trappings on the exterior) to make the last-year-of-model bodies upgraded to look like the hyper-expensive AMG's? Maybe they've figured they can do that every year and attract in the $6k-15k range of price markups just for some lower body-cladding and an AMG badge.
Being mainly a city driver myself, I'd have liked to know that the complete AMG appearance was such an easy option to have (it was not when I bought my car); I love the '55's performance like no other, but I'll admit that the appearance weighed at least as heavily in my decision. Don't know whether I'd rather have taken the $30-40k and a less-steep weekly fuel bill to have the same looking car as the one I'm now driving. It's actually only a tough question b/c I'm a torque fanatic; otherwise, it's a no-brainer, isn't it?

It's easier to identify the AMG Package and the actual AMG car itself now.
