Totally 100% different cars...at better comparison would be with the E63/CLS63.

Why? Sounds more like a performance comparison. Who cares of how different the cars are...

I assume that the S600 will easily beat the M5 from a stand still, especially with two regular drivers.
From 60-100 is another question, but believe that the BMW will not be able to gain, if at all. The updated V12 has just more torque to put on the road from 0-100.

Just my 2 cents...

But the S-Class is way heavier than the M5...

Very different machines/different buyers/price points, etc....

But both are 4000-5000lb commuter/family sedans allegedly designed for high-speed straight-line driving and comfortable slow-speed urban commuting through pothole-marked streets (any serious driver for wkend twisties would get a 997TT/430)....

M5 has rather weak torque vs 55/600/65, which shows up in 60-100MPH bursts that one may often do to solve fwy "jigsaw puzzles" (and driver of M5 needs to do more work to get car moving vs 600's high-torque auto "point-and-shoot" accel, even while one is on a conf call on car's speakerphone). Not clear that M5's safety systems/structures are as thoughtfully and effectively engineered as Merc's S-Class. Also, for those doing 100mi round-trip commuter duty (like NYC-Greenwich, Chic-LkForest, or SF-Silicon Valley) the BMW has a feeble-sized ?<<20gall tank vs 600's roughly 26gall tank....impt for cars that only deliver 10-12ishMPG w/exuberant fwy use and urban stop-and-go.....

Kinda hard to compare these 2 cars.....

Maybe 760 Vs S600 sounds more even out.

But if you asked me to pick and I had the money to I would buy the S600 anytime any day over the M5. Not just coz of power it more classy and elegant LOL also I never did like bmw that much.

I pick porsche's over bmw.
