Not Yet !

Keeping my fingers crossed for a S320 cdi (swb) 4-matic.

I think Mercedes is so back logged for the new S class,

they could not build a diesel fast enough to keep up. I would

guess 2008 at the earliest.

By the way a W221 swb compared to a W220 swb should have

about 3.5/4 inches more rear seat leg room. Now if they would

add optional ABC to the swb, awesome.

I will have a S420 CDI in my garage one day. Mercedes just needs to get it where I can go buy it!! The car company that gets a big reliable deisel fleet into the US the fastest is going to be a BIG winner. This gentlemen is what is known as a "Paradigm Shift"

If it is, my dealer doesn't think it's any time soon. California doesn't even currently get the E320CDI, unless they're used and brought in with 7500 miles or are a year old.

Dealer also says that due to upcoming diesel fuel changes, not many manufacturer's will be building diesels, at least for California.

I didn't do any research, but I think the only diesel passenger vehicle we can currently buy is a Volkswagen...

we can buy E320 Bluetec diesels in CA this fall since we are now getting low sulfur fuel and diesel particualte filters in the E320.

I want access to a S420 or whatever it is that has the V8 diesel engine. I would then go with Renntech, Kleemann, or Brabus and get an ECU tuned to get more power out of that puppy. I would gladly give up my mom's S550 for one of those puppies.

I think we can forget about a V8 diesel S-Class in the U.S. If they do bring in a diesel S it will be a S320 CDI or Bluetec for the 2008 model year. They also have a hybrid model coming soon also. Then there is the ghost of a model S450 coming at some point. MBUSA isn't going to import that many models I don't think. S320, S450, S550, S63, S600, S65 and whatever the hybrid turns out to be will be enough.

Also, the current V8 Diesel is and older engine and not up to U.S. regs. It would take a new V8 or they'd have to seriously ($$$) update the current one to sell it here and it wouldn't make sense with such a limited amount of sales.

My local dealer told me that he expects a S450, though again not any time soon. Can't wait to see that one; a diesel engine would be great but I would consider the S450 in a heart beat. Diesel fuel in my area is $3.66 per gallon, or more and I wouldn't drive it enough to justify the added cost.

The MY07 E320 Bluetec is still only a 45 state vehicle and therefore is not available for new retail in CA. As for a diesel 221, I would expect this would be the V6 as the efficiency gains vs. the V8 (either the 450 or 550) would be significant. Power delivery (torque) would be within range of the V8s and therefore offer acceptable acceleration. Also, I think MB launched an all-new diesel V8 just last year, crazy power and crazy price. Must be unbelievable in the 211!

May I ask where you got your source from? All my sources are telling me that there will be a E320 Bluetec available this fall in California. My dealer has information on it as well.

This whole Bluetec is going to be one of those wait and see type deals. I hear something different everyday it seems. Bluetec was designed to work in all 50 states, but in those 5 with strict standards I think MB and the feds are wrangling over the serivce interval for that canister that must be keep serviced.
