'07 S-Class Reliability/Quality To-Date?

Given how complex new S-Class is (and MB's much-publicized quality/reliability woes of past 5 yrs), what's been expce of '07 S-Class owners to-date re: reliability/quality/glitches (and pls note mis driven to-date)?

Owned S550LE for 6wks and 600 mis, and found it absolutely glitch-free and impeccably finished. Traded it in @100% resale value (apparently lim options availability has created strong resale value for LE's in near-term)....and looking forward to getting a June build S65 (w/almost certainly far worse resale value )....

We have close to 5K miles on our S550 and it is flawless IMO. It has yet to go back to the dealer for any small bug. Find me a toyota or honda thats as reliable as this new S please. I think you would be hard pressed to find one.

Mercedes did it right this time. Kudos. This car has more engineering in it than any other car I have seen or owned. Always a true joy to drive.

I can't wait for Jack's detailed report on how the car was on his cross country trip.

I have had a Check Engine light come on since past few weeks after ~2000 miles. Will let you know what they diagnose when I take it in for 1st service.

Well, may be some one will be interested...

There is a problem, that you probably will never encounter, but here, in Russia, we are dealing with it quite often.
It relates to bad gasoline, which is a common thing in Russia. New mercedes engines (V8 5.5 and V6 3.5 - those found in S 550 and in S350 and CLS) are much more sensitive to bad gasoline, than their predecessors V8 5.0 and V6 3.2. And on a top of it, now you can't simply clean sprayers (it's about $100) , like it it was before, now you have to replace the whole block which costs about 2000 Euros for W221 S500 (S550 in US) , and is not covered by warranty. I wonder why Mercedes did this set up?

Still though all of this is so minor compared to the opening months of the W220, it was a nightmare for many.

I was unimpressed with the S550 that was in my dealership's showroom back in November of 2005. The trunk latch was broken, and thus the trunk couldn't close at all. They even got a mechanic to come in and they couldn't do anything, at least not while I was there.

The new S Class however is perhaps still the most safest vehicle in the world and even safer than the previous S Classes before it.

Well that was just one car and that probably was a dealer abused vehicle, I've seen much worse especially at autoshows and the like. The lack of complaints here and at other MB boards is really encouraging.

Sorry to hear about the gas problems in Russia. Assume the new S Diesel would be the way to go there.

All of the S550 display cars that were initally at the MB dealers were the sole property of MBUSA. Test drives were forbidden but after much screaming by customers and dealers MB relented and allowed some drives to occur. These cars were all returned to Mercedes for "evaluation". The dealers would be the first to tell you that there were numerous initial "issues" with these cars and that the "real" S550's would be finished to a final higher quality etc etc. I am guessing that the delay of the new CL from May to September is probably due to these same issues. If they can't build it right, or they can't provide the level of options that you want, then why sell it? I'd rather wait, have them build the right quality and let me check off ALL of the options that I want. The Germans tend to be a little slow sometimes, but when they "get it", they usually get it right !

I agree totally. Quality is the most important thing for Mercedes-Benz now, not how many new models they can push on the market. I didn't know the CL was delayed, but that makes sense since it hasn't been shown in the usual 6 months after the S-Class debuts. That means that the beautiful, but dated next to the new S-Class, CL has to go on for a few more months.
