I don't think there will be an S 450. It would only be 5,000 $ cheaper than the S 550 and that doesn't make much sense. However, the S 550 is great car already, providing a ****load of power.

Yes there will be an S450, which arrives in September/October.
MB still has the Japanese to compete with, just as the other European manufacturers do.

may be true, but with leasing it might be a couple hundred dollars cheaper (just how the s430 was cheaper than the s500)

I doubt that. If a S450 was really coming a few months it would have been shown by now. The S450 (if ever) likely won't show up until the 2008 model year. The Lexus LS460 makes the S450 really pointless since the S450 is likely to cost more than the LS460 and have a lot less power, 335hp vs. 380. The only S variants coming is the S65 (July) and the S550 4Matic (November).

Personally, I think MB should stop worrying so much about its variants, and spend more time fixing its production delay problems.

O.K., forget I mentioned the Japanese.
When my father ordered his S550 the salesman specifically asked which model he wanted: 550 or 450. The person in charge of receiving allocations then came into the office and showed us that they had x amount of 450s coming in, and x amount of 550s, either of which could be tailored for a customer's order. They then also stated that the 4-Matics and the 450s would be delayed until the Fall.

That is really interesting about the Sept/Oct S450. I would think that the fuel economy and/or price of gas would be a consideration for some buyers.

Did you hear anthing about a CLS350 while you were at the dealer?

2006 base price

S500---$87,825.00
S430---$78,025.00

$9,800.00 difference

The S450 isn't needed right now. Mercedes would be wise to wait until S550 sales start slowing down and after Lexus prices the LS460 to introduce the S450 IMO. The S450 needs more than 335hp too. Mercedes should wait until the new V8s get direct injection so the S450 would have 365hp and the S550 would move to over 400hp with better fuel consumption.

My personal favorite would be a S450CGI (SWB)

Unfortunately, no...I only asked questions about the S-Class.
No other info was volunteered to us.

This was in mid-February.
We may get a S450 but I think your info in Feb has been overtaken by events. I doubt we will see the S450 this Fall...more likely see a SWB S320CDI before we see the S450. Just my instinct at work...:-)

I agree. Back in Feb every car mag said the same thing, that the S450 and S600 would arrive in April. Well the S600 arrived, but now there is no mention of the S450 by anyone in the media. They've likely put an embargo on the S450. The next model now that the S65 is here is the S550 4Matic this fall and early next year that S320 CDI you mentioned. I think the S320 CDI will be a huge hit.

BMW M850i Gran Coupe
S450 and 4Matic are on the way !

According to our friends at www.JESMB.de , the 340hp S450 and the 4matic S are now in production.

02.07.06 S-class with 4matic & 7G-Tronic
Starting from that 30.06.2006 is orderable S 450 in the new S-class. It is already from the GL 450 admits and carries out 340 HP as well as 460 Nm. It has large V8 engine, which comes of the new V8-Gerneration M273 a 4.6 litre. It accelerates the S-class in 5,9s (S 500 in 5,4s) on 100 km/h and with 250 is electronically abgeregelt.
The moreover one absofort S 450 and S 500 with 4matic all-wheel drive in combination of the 7G-Tronic is available. They have a new transfer case with 8,8 degrees teeth, which make a more compact building method possible in the Kardantunnel and permit so only the employment of the 7G-Tronic in combination with 4matic in a sedan. Here there is the new S-class price list

With all the freaking models MB has come with lately, I truly doubt they will hesitate to have yet another variation of the S. To some it will almost make the lease affordable at the sub $80k mark; Mercedes and Lexus may compete at some levels, but everyone knows you have to pay a little more for the car with a peace sign baby...

I think the S450 is a mistake at this time, it is going to get hammered pretty good by the Lexus LS460.

The link you posted takes me to a on-line gaming site????

This could very well be the EU version for the S450. If so then it will be at least 6 months until it would be available here and maybe not at all. If it isn't on MBUSA or some announcement from MBUSA or other source, then it probably is still up in the air when the car will be available here.

We have an S350 here. I never saw the need for the S430 when you could buy a S500, just so little difference.

But according to JJTOMA's information, i find the difference between the 430 and 500 is huge when you consider the main difference between the engines is basically the crankshaft, sure many other parts are changed but do not justify the almost 10000USD difference (were both models equiped with the same options JJTOMA?).

Well thanks, MBZFAN55.....I knew I wasn't drinking when
I visited that dealership!

And here's the new pricelist in German, inclusive of the S450 & S450 4-Matic:
http://www.mercedes-benz.de/content/...sse_060630.pdf

Apparently, the LWB S450 is about 8,900 Euros less in base price than the S550....
..excluding the V.A.T. of course.

Maybe Nevada Jack can answer, He had a 2006 S430 before his
current S2007 S550.

Jack?

Thanks
