With the RAZR phone, you have to buy the Bluetooth Interface Module (http://www.wireless4mb.com/btsolutions.aspx), then pair the RAZR to the module and you should be good to go.

Jack: You're right, I don't think they make a RAZR cradle yet. Maybe it has something to do with the plug being the mini-usb style, and on the side of the phone.

Phone and cradle

Here is the cradle setup with the V557 mounted. The small case is for carrying the V557 should I not have the RAZR.

I think you may be right...also there have been software conflicts with COMAND so I understand.

No...if you buy the BT Module, that plugs into the center console contacts. The phone once paired with the module does not even have to leave your pocket. When you sit in the car with the phone on, it will automatically pair with the module and you can use the speaker and other in car features to use it. The phone will not charge and you will not use the external antenna of the car with a BT setup.

I will try and get a pic of the bluetooth thing installed sometime next week, if you are interested. If you open the armrest console, there will be a little connector. You can either buy the cradle or the bluetooth adapter to plug into it.

As Jack said, with the bluetooth, it is wireless, so you do not get the added benefit of charging the phone and external antenna. But, that being said, the bluetooth interface on our car paired with the Verizon E815 works great (maybe it's just the great verizon network hehe). If you have a RAZR and you want to use it and not buy another phone, you have no choice but the bluetooth.

If i am VERY happy with my Cellular reception from Cingular, then I dont really need the use of the external car antenna..... therefore, the only drawback would be NOT charging it in the car.... right? I have chargers at home and at my office.... so no big deal.

So really - i should order this blue tooth module right away!?

My car will be delivered to me on Friday !!!! 6 days from now..

WHAT is the break in period on this car? Any different to previous MBs? or is that only for AMG cars?

You will probably be fine with the BT setup...but remember, the S windows are laminated with a film to reduce IR radiation and this can have an effect on transmission/reception of cell signals. It may or may not effect yours. Only you can judge when you get the car and try it out.

Although I'm still waiting for my S 63, I still want to contribute to this discussion. I have ABC on my current S 430, and as far as I know, on the W220, the C/S settings for the transmission are totally separate from those of the ABC. Case in point, there are two separate buttons: one on the dash for the ABC and the other on the shift console. Unless things have changed, there should be the same set-up on the W221, as it seems less than optimal to force the driver to start off in 2nd gear just to enjoy a softer ride.

On the issue of the phone, I too have Cingular, and the people at AWS were very helpful in telling me what software versions will integrate with the cradle they sell. If you opt for a Moto V557, you would access the software version by turning the phone on and typing in *#9999#. Hold the last # and it will display the software version. If it ends in 08.28.40R it should match up to the cradle when docked. This represents a big savings, as purchasing a phone from AWS can be expensive. I was lucky in that I was able to upgrade my phone with Cingular and it cost me nothing (with a $50 rebate.) If you opt for a different phone, or simply want the Bluetooth dongle, you'll interface with the COMAND system, but you'll be using your phone's antenna for transmission and you won't be able to charge the phone in the car unless you use the cigarette lighter charger. As I understand it, BT communications eat up the battery and you don't benefit from the added power of the car's integrated bumper antenna. Just something to think about. The only drawback that I see in using the cradle is that when the phone is docked, unlike on my W220 that has a cord and allows one to hold the phone (Moto V60) to one's ear for a private conversation, the current set up on my GL is strictly handsfree. Hope this helps and congrats on your upcoming delivery.

Yes, the W220 model had a separate ABC sport mode button aside from the transmission C/S modes.

On the W221, there is no separate ABC button. It is now integrated with the C/S transmission modes. So, yes, in order to have a softer ride, you have to start in second gear. I'm sure you can manually override with the steering wheel buttons, but that seems to defeat the purpose of "comfort" mode.
