Question Having doubts

Hello, everyone:

As I have mentioned in other posts, I have had a deposit on an S63 for quite some time now, and the delivery date appears to be next April, from what I'm told. In any case, unlike with my W220, I'm still finding it difficult to fall in "love" with the W221. It's a beautiful car, but it just doesn't make my heart smile the way my W220 did when I first set eyes on it. This obviously creates a problem for me because I have put this deposit down and will be receiving the car in a few months. I recall when I bought my 99 CLK cabriolet, I was told I could have turned around and sold it that same day for $10,000 more than what I paid for it, just due to the demand and short supply. I'm wondering if I should consider doing something like this with the 63, and then getting something else, like the new CL. I don't mean to offend anyone here with my feelings about the W221; I'm simply being honest. I would like to know your opinions about selling the S63 for a profit, as opposed to just changing my deposit for a CL.

consider tax......unless you are trading it in, it will add about $10,000 to the sticker. I dont see the S63 as a car you can flip for a profit such as the SL55 when it first came out.....i could be wrong. The CL63 probably has more of a profit chance since the base CL550 hasnt even come out yet.

I had the same feelings about the W221 when it first came out but the more I looked at it and sat in it at the dealer, the more I liked it. I'm not saying that you should feel the same way, but maybe you can convince your dealer to let you drive one for a few days, or rent one from a specialty rental company and see if you really enjoy it. In any case, if the car hasn't been built yet, you should still be able to get your deposit back if your dealer is nice, or pay a small penalty like a processing fee or something.

I just don't see any profit in taking delivery on a S63, pay the tax and then "hope" to turn it over for a profit...then order a CL63 and pay tax on that. If the W221 does not move you, then find a car that does. The CL63 sure moves me but I am not interested in a coupe setup inside. If it moves you then change the deposit to the CL and enjoy the ride.

Hey Jack,

Are you thinking about upgrading to the S63? ? ?

What do you suppose your trade in value would be right now?

No on the S63 Chucky...beyond my desired level of debt...:-)

I have no idea of what a trade would bring but I am sure Greg at Glauser would make it interesting ...

Thank you all for your thoughts and advice. I'm not going to do anything drastic just yet, as there is still time to make the final decision. I will look at both cars (CL and S) at this year's auto show and give it some more thought. The S63 is a tremendous automobile, and I'm fortunate to be relatively high on the list for it (#17, I think) so I'll wait and see. Thanks again.

I am going for an CL over the S AMG. The CL is just another timeless design IMO.

Already have two W221 S classes in the house.

Same here. We've discussed this before, but once again, I am with those who just aren't ecstatic about the W221. Granted, I'm much better now, than I was before the cars hit the street, but I'm just not "warm and fuzzy" about the new S550. Don't get me wrong, as a quirk of fate I could probably get into another "S", but I think this time I'm going to make the move to a CL550 with every option that Mercedes can ship. I'm thinking about the incredible CL63, but as a daily driver I'm not sure the AMG suspension and 20 inch wheels would be as comfortable as I'd like. Either way, I should be in a CL by January.

MBZFAN55, get the AMG its plenty comfy with ABC. Remember its a hydarulic suspension so you have full control (well almost) over it.
