Does anyone know the reason the MB Build your own kicks out the wood/leather steering wheel option when you select the heated steering wheel option. I am soon going to order a new S550 and desire both options. I have seen cars reportedly equipped with both. I am aware that in the past, both were not available.

 

My S 600 has wood/leather steering Wheel and the Heated steering Wheel as additional option. FYI: it takes about 5 seconds to heat up the leather part.

Never knew that!! I hated how in order to get a wood steering wheel, you had to delete the heated option.

 

I think that, for whatever reason, it might not be possible to combine wood & heated steering wheels on the S550. When you look at the codes, you can't have a heated wheel with a S550 Designo, either. However, this is not true of the S600 (obviously, since it is heated and wood) or the S65 (where the wood/leather combo is standard [which is why the paddle shifters aren't found on U.S.-spec S65's: only a full-leather wheel can be paired with the paddles] but the heater is optional). Very peculiar, but that's Mercedes-Benz. Oh so luxurious, but teeth-grindingly bureaucratic in their Prussian way.
