Thank you for the pointers regarding the automatic car wash. The subject of the Park engaging when opening the door can be found in the S600/S550 Operating Manual on page 370. To quote "Keyless-Go*: If you turn off the engine using the Keyless-Go start/stop button and open the driver's door, the automatic transmission will shift to park position P automatically. ...etc."
That is the line that threw me. However your explanation (and Kelvine 310's)set me straight on this one.

I keep my key in that secret compartment while I am driving. I really like the push to start thing but where to put the key?

The W140 has them in the doors too, the armrests fold over right? Like chuckey was saying my friend suggests it would be the perfect place for a handgun if it was legal to carry here.
