SWB vs LWB
I noticed that the S550 had LWB on its Mfr Sticker and Autoweek said the S63 would be a short wheelbase version of the S Class. Has anyone heard if Mercedes might offer other versions of the S class in SWB loke the Audi A8 & A8L options?

The S450 will probably be the V (LWB) version, too. The W220 S430 was, after all. If we get any of the W (SWB) model W221s, it would almost have to be an S350 or S320 CDI/Bluetec, if past history holds. The EU and ROW gets shorts version of almost every S-Class model except the S600, but not the States. I have long felt this is a shame, since I see the feature content and so forth of the S as more valuable than extra space for rear-seat passengers, and the SWB offers more manoeuverability with less weight. Conversely, some buyers in China can get the length of an LWB sedan without all the expensive gadgetry by buying an Audi A6 or BMW 5-Series LWB model. But that's for China only thusfar.

Well, the S63 has been covered extensively before in other threads. Simply, it's the V-8 AMG version of the S-Class. It'll slot between the S550 and S600 in price (and probably performance). It's got the 6.2-litre V-8 that AMG just developed, producing ~510 horsepower. It's been unveiled in Europe, but not yet in America.
So the lineup will be:
S550 ($85k)
S63 ($115-125k?, I don't think pricing has been set yet, this is based on the S55)
S600 ($140k)
S65 (~$180k)
For the CL, S, and SL models, M-B will continue with a dual-AMG model lineup, one with 8-cylinder power, and one as a total-flagship biturbo V-12 model. Save the $60k and buy the V-8 version, it'll perform almost as well and weigh less.
I think the old S55 could be had in SWB in Europe, so the new S63 might be, as well, but it's probably LWB only for the States on this model, as noted by others above.
