PCMCIA Adaptor

Has anyone used this to play files downloaded from Napster (the legal variety) ? IF so what did you do to get the files to play and be visible with titles etc ?

Thanks

Do I understand correctly from their web pages that the files are actually DRM protected, you need their player on the device you want to play the music? Seems you cannot convert the content to MP3 format, then cannot play in the car (unless someone figures out how to break the protection they use). MB anyway would not support their player or their proprietary file format.

I spoke with Napster a little while ago - they said to burn the files to CD and Rip from that CD using Windows media player. Guess I'll get the adaptor and give it a try.

It still confuses me as to why Mercedes used PCMCIA. That technology is very dated.

What would you consider better? USB? That would not have a unique form factor, would need to allow free space for devices, most likely having them visible, disturbing the cabin view. One would also need Windows like capabilities to support all possible USB drivers (see what happens when you put one to a PC first time) and an update capability for upcoming devices. PCMCIA may be old but proven and simple, we anyway want to avoid electrical problems, don't we?

Well I think they would have made a better choice with a SD card slot, then again you can just buy a sd card adapter and plug it into the PCMCIA slot. I woulden't suggest either of these though. Just get an ipod+integration.

I believe the best option is pretty much a matter of opinion. Perhaps someone prefers the exact same content of music around always with an iPod, I put priority on the speed to access titles from a fast memory card and fast interface. Then again, I don't carry 60 Gbytes of music in any case (but isn't a lot of that actually video files on an iPod :-)

MB anyway supports both options, no problem there.
