Hi Guys...guess what? Yeah, I cancelled the order for the GL a week and a half before delivery. In a nutshell, the GL320CDI has a problem with the turbo intercooler hose disengaging. It generally happens at pretty good speed and when it does the truck slows down or can even go into limp mode or can quit altogether. If anyone is interested in the details you can go to the GL forum and read the two threads. Complicating the problem is some have had it happen twice and one that I know three times. He is going for a buy-back.

After waiting 5 months I was not going to accept a vehicle that had a highway stranding problem. Westminster MB and Greg were very cooperative and refunded my deposit.

So I am keeping my S550 and will be taking another 5000 mile jaunt in late June to the east coast. Not a bad alternative come to think of it...

Sorry to hear about that. Isn't the GL manufactured in Vance,Alabama? I live 45 minutes from there. Maybe I need to go over there and run the place!! I've witnessed how things go in Stuttgart so maybe I need to crack the whip a little here in 'Bama.

PS - I am going TOMORROW to pick up the lens we talked about from B&H. I was so messed up this week at the factory that i didnt have a chance to go there. My factory is literally a few avenues away (38th between 7th and 8th) and B&H is on 34th and 9th avenue.

Hey Jack...I admire your decision. That turbo hose deal with the 320 CDI GL doesn't pass the smell test with me. I have learned through automotive, marine and building expierience that some connections cannot be accomplished with a hose and a clamp. Some connections require a threaded/coupled arrangement with stainless braided hose i.e. brake line connections at the caliper assembly. Why MB can't pull the trigger and make the switch is a mystery...in any case you can't let their problems become your problems. There's too much at risk.

Hey Newt...I will probably be going through Texas one way or the other but when and where I don't know. I'll keep Sugar Land on my mind...

 

I regret not waiting for a white S600. I think getting the AMG package on one is a hurdle to jump. I have the obsidian black and it needs a washing every other day.

 

I was wondering why you even considered giving up your S to a GL???
