Yeah that does seem odd. I mean the S65 engine is just a tuned up version of the S600 bi-turbo V12 if I'm not mistaken. Perhaps the S600 is heavier for some reason? But I can't imagine why.

Ok, strike that idea. The S65 AMG is actually heavier than the S600 by about 200 lbs.

maybe because the S65 has so much more torque available that in the city for example you'd barely ever need to get it over 2000rpm and hence you can make good use of the low end power.
