has anyone noticed that click/button under the accelerator?

if you've floored the pedal in the 550, there seems to be a click or a button being pushed, can feel it when i press all the way down on the pedal.....what is that?!

So the W221 still uses the kickdown switch? I thought it would have been a position sensor in the pedel

That's what I'm thinking. Some folks in the E55 forum (I believe) had a short debate about the switch. Some said it's not really a switch, some sad it was. I think the end result was that the newer models (don't know when it was) have a faux kickdown switch and use the position sensor (which is triggered by the pedal movement when the button is depressed).

I prefer kickdown switch, a way to forcefully tell the car.
I don't have one (a position sensor instead) in my LS430.

for Australian spec cars(at least), the switch is the over ride button for the speed limiter. kickdown is controlled by accelerator position and depends on road speed load etc and is vairable.

do US cars have the variable speed limiter aka speedtronic??

Not that I know off. Usually we have two governors. One at 155mph and another at 186mph.
On other cars, it could be 100mph, and some Lexus's I know are 135mph (or near there) due to factory tires.

What I'd like to know is what does the digital and analog speedometer display once I pass 160 mph (if I ever do)?????
I have the Renntech ECU mod on my car and they delimited the governor so that it can reach almost 190mph. AMG cars have speedos that go to around 220mph but my regular S600 of course doesn't go past 160. Has anyone done this and looked down to see what the speedo reads out??? Thanks to cops, I'll probably never get to experience this.

vraa,

In australia, the cruise control stalk has another function, activated by pushing the end of the stalk in. once activated, the limiter can be set at any speed between 30 and 210km/h. quite handy too. do US cars not have this?

Oz delivere cars have the 250km/h permanent limiter too, something i once experienced in a C32AMG in the rain.....

I don't think we get the LIM option here.
