Without speed limiter? An S500 is limited to 250 km/h, taking into account the meter tolerances, you can run it at 255 km/h against the speed limiter. Even an S320CDI makes 250km/h, speed limited (likely would not do much more than that even without a limiter).

Perhaps you are referring to the US speed limit versus the Euro speed limit on these cars?

The S550s (500 outside US) are capable of 175 mph unlimited.

I wish we could have seen the tachometer in that footage. It would be nice to see how close he was getting to redline. Also, I was hoping he would have exceeded the range of the analog speed gauge to see if the digital readout of the speed would have taken over above the limit of 160 mph seen on our USA versions of these cars. I find it amazing that I saw this video today as just last night I was talking to my friends about how my car was delimited (max. now at 190) and I was wondering what happens to the speedometers of the non-AMG instrument clusters when speed exceeds 160.

I don't know where I can go to reach these speeds to answer my own questions

Not sure if it is a real option but you can try a German Autobahn, no speed limit there, and quite a few (although not too many and not too often) cars do more than 250 km/h.

Not an option for me, but I have been to Germany (last year) and really enjoyed the autobahn. I went there to visit the Mercedes plant in Sindelfingen and also to tour the VW Phaeton/Bentley Flying Spur plant in Dresden.
