Guys I read some of you have taken your '07 S550s to the dealers and were able to update it to '08 spec am I correct? If so how do I explain to my dealer the process of doing it? They said its not possible, yet I read on here several guys doing this already. Is it actually a Comand Update or just a nav update?

I did a search under topics for "comand update" and "navigation updates on the W221 threads and pulled up nothing. You can try it yourself. Eddie didn't specify the threads were started by him so I never guessed to have clicked on his profile. But thanks guys.

The Service person at Ewing in Dallas seemed pretty clueless when I spoke to her about. She said she asked a service tech about it, and they didn't know anything either.

I'd like to get some of the features mentioned in the upgrade, so if anyone in the Dallas area gets it done please post which dealership handles it.

edit: When I went back to pickup the car I went and spoke to the parts dept. I was able to order the disk (it's on backorder), and he seemed to understand that an upgrade is possible. We both agreed, though, that when it comes in there's no telling if the service dept will be able to help me with that. I guess we'll see

Note anyone who has taken delivery of a MY07 or early build MY08 on or after 7/24/07 that does not have this update is entitled at no cost since it is the current software.

Those who took delivery before this date need only pay for the update DVD by mentioning MBUSA DTB P-B-82.85/512d AUG07 that allows the required Telematics System software update installation at no cost.

Thank you for the information. I just had my 2007 S-550 (build Sept 06) updated at Calstar in Glendale CA. The information you provided was a big help. Javier my Service Adviser and Guy the Service Manager did a great job getting it updated.

I now have Bird Eye View and Real-Time Traffic Update (a necessity in southern ca) enabled and love it. I had the A service done as well, good work and very reasonable prices. I highly recommend them.

Hi guys,

So I called my dealership here in Canada and they quoted me $365 for the DVD. Apparently, when they punched in part # BQ6460225, a newer version showed up as BQ6460231. Can anybody confirm there is indeed an even newer DVD?

However, my service advisor had no idea about this bulletin and claimed that they have never been informed about it for Canadian cars. He advised me to order the DVD, then put it in the DVD-slot to see if it works. If not, then he can try to hook up a computer and update it that way. It will be a 1-2 hour labour charge.

So guys, is the newer DVD the right one for '07 S550s? And can I install it myself, i.e. put it in the DVD slot or do I actually need the stealership to do it?

Don't know how true this is, but the service advisor told me he had no access to bulletins issued by MBUSA, for they are different from those issued by MB Canada.

But is this something I can do myself, as in buy the DVD and insert the disc into the DVD-changer? Or do we need dealer equipment? If possible, I'd like to avoid paying that 1-2 hour labour since they sound like they are so puzzled as to such an update even existed. Heck, they don't even know how they are going to do this upgrade and will just "try and see what happens." For that they want to charge me 1-2 hours?!?!

Hi konigstiger, Would you be generous as to email me the bulletin copies. I'd like to have my s550 updated. But you know how it is too difficult to talk to dealership about no cost services. It is a lot better if I am 'equipped" with this technical bulletin printout. I appreciate your help.

I got my update done through Calmotors in Glendale and I can now play DVD video, though only in park and with the parking brake on.

Mine was a 2007 S550.

However, the update seemed to have messed up my backup camera, so I will have to take it to Fletcher Jones to get that fixed. Did anyone else have a problem with their rear-view camera after the update?

There was (is) an issue with the parking markings on the backup camera software - the '07s and early '08s had this, however (think I read it here - somewhere) there was a lawsuit/complaint about wheel damage so it was modified. When your COMAND was version coded as part of the upgrade you got the new version without the original. You probably also notice dual lines (I do as well). Still works but slightly limited.

When you go to the dealer if they tell you it can be changed without affecting the rest of the update please post for the rest of us.

Hey Everyone,

Just back from the dealer - and my command is perfect now.

I can watch videos in PARK only.

I have the traffic update which shows "red cars" on the roads where there is a backup.

Birdseye works well too!

Anyone know how to bypass the video so you can enable it even while in motion?

I just got my update done. Love the birds eye view and the traffic update. No parallel park feature in the backup camera. Never used that anyway. I have not tried the DVD video yet.
