Intelligent light system
I noticed on the CL's interactive manual that it has something called a intelligent light system for the headlamps. Does the S have the same? The S's interactive manual did not show this feature

Did not read the CL manual, not sure if it might have something like the face shifted W211 where the beam range even is controlled according to driving conditions (speed etc.). The S would anyway have xenons that follow the road at turns, it would have specific lights for slow speed cornering, lighting the near area towards the direction the car is turning (the E would use fog lamps on each side for this). I believe that is as far as the W221 has intelligence in lights.

diesel benz - it is in the interactive owners manual that you introduced me to for the S. only look at the videos for the CL model.
The headlamps reorient at high way sppeds and have something called freeway mode. Also corner illuminating function is more advanced that turning on the fog lamps (as in the GL)

Interesting, I would have assumed the CL being the same as the S.
The motorway mode and the fog lamp adaptation (which is shown on the video but I did not find it from the manual) seem additional features to the S. Although the motorway mode would not exist on a car with Night View, I don't know then about S-class cars without Night View but I since the manual does not mention this, I would assume it does not exist on an S-class even if it did not have Night View.
Odd that the cornering light is implemented with the fog lamps as opposed to specific cornering lamps on the S. It just looks like one of the fog lamps had failed when I look at an E-class turning at night. On the S-class one would not see this as the cornering light comes from the main lamp assembly.

So the S's cornering lamp function does not come from turning on and off a single fog light in the direction of the turn. If that is what you mean then it is awesome.
It looks quite ridiculous as your observation on the E when only one fog light comes on!!! I had the cornering function disabled thru the menu on the speedo on my GL.

ILS for USA not possible
The ILS (Intelligent Light System) is currently not allowed for the US market due to government regulations concerning lighting systems. Therefore, our market is limited to the advanced lighting system. This system moves the beams from side to side when turning etc. Perhaps in a few years the gov't will allow ILS (and perhaps then adaptive brake lamps on cars other than V12 model 216/221).

This appears from the user guide too, where they explain the different bulbs at the head light assembly. Had to double check it at my garage, on the W221 the fog lights really do not perform the cornering lights tasks but those specific bulbs at the corner of the main light assembly instead.
