New for the 2008 model year is Majestic Black, which replaces Obsidian Black for the S-Class. While both are metallic, (as opposed to "good old faithful 040" solid Black) Majestic has a bluish cool tint unlike the warm brownish tint of Obsidian which looks almost Mocha Black (designo Espresso) in certain light.

Obsidian Black is still on the paint chart alongside Majestic Black. They are quite different. Obsidian Black is a proper black metallic. It does not have a "brownish tint (hue)" of any sort. The choice is yours.

Thanks, Bradd. I must say that I don't like the new color- too blue for me.

My impression of obsid blk (having seen it live in sunlight) is that it's a brownish-blk (which I don't care for).....sort of like Porsche's basalt blk...always looks dingy (even when clean)....

Agree....maj blk is a dark blue....not my choice (prefer Iridium Silver)....hate any micro-swirls/scratches of dark colors, even metallics w/MB's nano-tech clearcoats, despite careful hand-washing.....life's too short to deal w/swirls, etc for any car.....these are disposable, daily-useable cars, right????

obsidian black while still available on the paint chart (online) cannot be ordered. At least the system did not take it when I built my S and I went with Black. Majestic black is similar to what used to be black opal
