Hey 996... nevermind the probation on my name - i aint that bad

Trumpet will confirm that

Well - 17000 miles... gosh - it all depends on your driving (I see you said normal driving...but sport tires' tread usually are used up faster than A/S)

personally - every 12500 - 15,000 miles - I change my pads... and every 25,000-30,000 i change roters and pads at same time.

Tires... every 20K I believe...again, depending on driving (plus i change my tires in the winter)

56,000 miles on brakes. Original pads and rotors on all 4.

32,000 miles on 22" rear tires. 37,000 miles on 22" front tires. (switched immediately after purchasing vehicle)

THAT is impressive, unless I am not correct about my own timeline.

My S550 totally beats my S500 by almost double. On the S500, tires where routine on the rear at 13,000 miles and front at 27,000 miles.

We'll see how long the brakes will hold as wear indicators haven't gone off yet on the S550.

If I didn't have the Smart, I swear I would have at least 80,000 miles on the S550 but I think the brakes will hold till 70,000 miles since there is more than 5mm of pads left on front and rear.

wow that's a lot of miles!!!

it jsut seem weird to me that only 17k miles have to change pads and all 4 tires!!! I'm seeing wire in the front already and the car is completely stock on 19" AMG wheels never been driven hard... i wonder why

Perhaps the 22" tyres were plastic instead of W or higher rated rubber Honestly, the tyre compound makes a big difference and the high speed tyres we use in Europe don't give any good mileage at all. 17 000 miles isn't a surprise from average driving.

Another point is wheel alignment, perhaps the 22" wheel car had had wheels aligned to optimise tyre wear instead of handling. MB is using pretty aggressive alignment, like toe-in in the rear, that increases tyre wear but stabilises the car like at very high speed braking.

Pads appear to be very much about traffic, I'm not expecting pad change before 50 000 miles, on the other hand rumors say the US pads are softer (even if EPC shows the same parts).

Funny this subject came up. I only got 13000 out of my rear tires but my front tires will probably go 25000.
But yesterday I noticed a shuddering feeling in my car as I entered the interstate. I don't know if it is due to my front tires being worn or if it is because I haven't driven the car for a few days and it developed a slight imbalance and out of roundness due to sitting in the garage because the problem seems to have diminished as I drove it down the interstate a few miles. Not sure.

tire flatspotting. very common with our heavy cars and low profile tires.

I forgot to note that in regards to the tire wear what help is when you leave the suspension on sport or the firmest setting to have the longest life on the tires especially when you carrry passengers or load the trunk along with having correct tire pressure.

The reason for that is because when in comfort mode the suspension is prone to more travel in order to absorb the irregularities on the road causing constant change in camber and toe. When that happens it almost like rubbing your tire away like an eraser as the tires roll.

If you see on many of the larger models the tires are always saw bladed even when car is aligned to spec at dealer due to the floatyness.

In regard to my the suspension, it was aligned at the dealer to original spec after lowering. I made sure they did not set it for optimal tire wear.

I figured this out as back in high school when I use to work on these cars. For example 560SEL versus 420SEL and 190E 2.3/2.6 versus 190E 2.3-16, same suspension alignment specs but one has self leveling which helps keep constant suspension angles from less traveling.

Try it on the W220s big difference for sure. Almost doubles the life.

I've had all these vehicles for comparison and I surely beleive that's the case.

There is definitely something wrong with one of my wheels. I checked the tire pressure and gave it another freeway drive and sure enough, there seems to be a wheel/tire out of balance.
I also noticed my metal stem was slightly damaged (right rear) and it was difficult to connect the air nozzle to it. I managed to get it to take air. I guarantee you the local tire store won't have a metal valve stem I'll need. I may can just bend it back as it is not bent that bad out of shape.
I just hope that the only problem is a tire out of balance and not something more expensive.
