2007 S550 Nav can't find Starbucks?!!
I just picked up a 2007 S550 here in Northern California and have been trying to figure out how to pull up the nearest Starbucks stores, and could not find and entry in the Nav system. I even asked my sales person, and he was unable to find a POI category that would find/list coffee houses. Does Anyone know if this is possible with the 2007 Nav software? What about the 2008 Nav software?
Does the 2008 Nav software provide better options for POI's? With Starbucks on every corner in the US, I can't believe my S550's nav can't find a single one (without knowing the address)
Also can you display the time/distance remaining to a destination on the main screen? I find it baffling that you can put the Lat/long coordinates of your location on the main screen, but that you have to dig down to another screen to see how far and how much time remains to your destination, does the 2008 Nav update fix this?

It appears a bit odd that the US POI data got worse when MB changed from a European Tele-Atlas to a US navi data company, Navteq (or is this too a European company after the Nokia purchase?).
The ETA can be called from a menu on a 2007, like you explain, but an update would make it configurable to allow constant readout on the main screen.

Starbucks coffee is the worst import we have ever received into the UK from the US of A, $5 for a cup of dishwater !! and yes they are trying to put one on every corner in London as well.

The worst thing about the MB POI is the complete lack of a Pub guide!!
not to mention Speed camera locations..
C'mon guys, how do we hack the Comand so we can upload our own POI DB?

I noticed that finding out remaining distance is a bit weird to access. I cannot get the navigation system to show remaining time, but accessing remaining distance is easy. Once you have entered a destination, use the steering-wheel-mounted set of buttons on the left side of the steering wheel and move to the menu titled "Navigation" (I am referring to the menus under your speedometer that are Trip, Audio, Navigation, Settings, etc.). Once you get to Navigation, the center of your speedo will then display what next turn or move you have to make, as well as the overall remaining distance to your destination right above that.
As for Starbucks, the POI are for restaurants, shopping malls, and stuff like that. Starbucks doesn't qualify as a restaurant. I definitely see where you are coming from, though.

The BMW system actually was cracked and experts described how to enter their own POI data. The MB encryption seems too hard (the BMW disc was not encrypted to start with).

The speedo part should be the same on both versions.

While we are complaining about the 07-08 Navteq system, does it bother anyone that the "route" street and road names are no longer listed as part of the navigation guidance? I can't tell you how many times I used the prior navigation system and changed my routing after seeing the roads that were suggested. Driving near large metro areas like NYC and Boston the system consistently choses the "wrong" route and now I need to view the map more closely to alter my navigation - much more difficult than reading road names. In defense of the new system, the graphics are much nicer than earlier models. Maybe Nokia's acquisition of Navteq earlier this month will quickly repair the glitches in the system.

+1. I think it is ludicrous to pay $4 for a cup of coffee that doesn't taste any better than Arabica coffee from Walmart.

I took my car in for a Nav update on Jan 3rd 08, and now have the latest Maps, birds eye view etc... Alas still no starbucks.. I did find out that my car supports Mercedes/Tele Aid's new "Send to car feature" for obtaining directions from yahoo and google Maps... See http://www.sendtocar.com/ . I would be interested to know if anyone has tried/recomments this functionality...
