I went to school for 11 years (15 if you count high school) and have worked very hard for the past 10. Working five days a week plus some nights, weekends, and holidays are my usual fare. I love my job, but it's demanding. It's not easy watching your friends have a life and you're stuck being on call, or having a family gathering and having to leave in the middle of dinner because you're needed at the hospital. I think having some nice toys is a personal reward worth having. Some people have it much easier and earn a lot more than I do, but I'm quite satisfied. At 39, not many can say that.

Well said neodoc

I too am in your boat. In my opinion, its the only thing that makes our schooling well worth the agony of studying.

I justed turned 40 and aside from my S550 daily driver, I rewarded myself with an AM V8 Vantage Roadster. Hey, you only live once! Carpe Diem!

Congrats my fellow Guju. My cousin is a NeuroSurgeon in San Francisco and he just bought himself a bloody DB9 as his bday gift to himself lol. He does work hard though and I am sure that being a Neurosurgeon is no easy task

I do not own a "S" class or had the opportunity to go to school like mostly all of you, I start working at the age of 15, and I can not say I'm satisfied but thanks to God I'm doing ok and my richness is my family and my health

I disagree with the fact that just because you lease the car, you can't afford it. I, like neodoc, went to school for a very long time and am just now getting to where I am making "nice" money. I could easily justify and afford a S-class if I wanted to, but I choose leasing as it gives me significant tax and business advantages.

There are many reasons people of "wealth", and that is such a subjective term, lease their cars instead of buying.

Just had to put that out there....Back to the topic at hand...

The ONLY thing that makes sense when you lease is if you absolutely positively will get a new car at the end of 3 years. Period.

No matter what the tax advantages are, buying would give you the same with a little bit of number-play by your accountant. You could just as easily deduct all the mileage if you use the car for business purposes. In places like TX, owning a car under your business could end up being a little bit of a liability if you are not a large corporation - you have to pay a commercial vehicle tax and from what I understand, commercial auto ins. is more expensive too. I suppose even in TX, with a little bit of creativity ( ), your accountant could make you come out with a decent savings

That may be Texas, but here it is not the same. I get a much nicer tax break with my lease the way that my accountant has everything set up than I would with my purchase.

Just my experience though... don't take it as gospel.

My God that was bad grammar, Wow i have changed a lot recently.
Went from not caring about life to being insanely conserned about myself and my future, Not caring about school to wondering how to get my GPA To 3.5 Avg.. Going from just wanting to do something meaningless like buisness or Corporate law to Wanting to be a MD. And now wondering about 6 Year programs and wondering if i could be done with College/Med School in 6 Years if i went year long and took no breaks.. Hmm. Oh and My grammar got a ton better and i just dont do stupid stuff now.

Wow Amazing (Sorry that post amazed me that it actually came from my keyboard.)

oh and bump

I agree. Leasing makes more sense for a lot of people. I personally am not going to drop $100k+ on a car in one sitting. I lease a car for 39 months, give it back, and get a new one. Yes, I could afford to out right buy it, but I wouldn't want to and it wouldn't make sense from a business stand point.
