S600 limiter

I was coming back from vegas last night at around 1am and I decided to punch it. The car would only go up to 140mph and then power cut off. what is the limiter set on the w221 s600? If its 140mph then I am very diappointed. Guess I have to get a flash to get rid of the limiter then. Also do anyone find it weird that the speedo only reaches 160mph? Come on, it is a V12 TT.

slow eh?

Sad but true. When I got my S 600 in Nov., I too found it cuts you off at 140.
Actually here in Canada that 225km./hour which is actually pretty damn fast. You don't want to be cruisin too far too fast like that in these here parts.
Now the Ontario Provincial Police will fine you $2000 -- and get this-- tow your car away on the spot and keep it for a week, if you are (only) 50 kms./hour over the limit.
That's got to really suck. That means that if you're doin 150kms on a l00km hwy. zone ( i.e. 93 in a 60) you lose.
I was definately living dangerously testing the limiter. But in the desert, well, what the hell...
Nice torque though...

Yeah, if you're doing 35mph over they automatically assume you're racing, or something to that extent.

Had '07 CL600...great car...

But wouldn't be comfortable driving CL600 much >100MPH....those brakes are not confidence inspiring (don't see how those calipers are any different vs a C300's calipers).....US fwys have many more bumps/imperfections (and high-speed-clueless drivers) vs German derestricted AB....and US has many more ambitious prosecutors/lawyers to criminally/civil-litigate vs the guy irresponsibly driving a $150K+ car at super-legal speeds if anything goes wrong and innocent lives are affected....Darwinian selection on various levels.....

Don't drive that fast in Switzerland. Limited to 120km/h. Speeding > 30km on highways gives you a fine depending on your income. May run from 1000$ to >30.000$ and your driving licence will be gone for a while... Up to now I had never a chance to see my speedometer > 160 km for a few seconds...

We could also swap cars . The Euro 320CDI top speed is limited to 250 km/h, that is about 155 mph. Tyres are W-rated (max speed 270 km/h).

The limiter is supposed to be set based on the speed of your tires. THe tires on my S600 are "Y" which are rated for 186 MPH. THe dealer told me that the 221 S600 are supposed to have the limiter set at 155.

However I can confirm that my 2007 S600 speed limiter kicked in and shut down the car at exactly 130 MPH. So I am pretty sure most US 221 S600 cars that have the "Y" tires are set at 130MPH

MB has been limiting most of it's cars at 130 here in the US based on some so called "Gentlemen's agreement" and mainly because there is no road in the US that you can legally drive that fast without the risk of a reckless driving charge. After all, no matter how good of a driver you are, at those speeds anything can happen and the results aren't always pretty. Just look at the kill section on this forum. Look at this thread and think about it especially after one of our members on this board killed someone and now will never get to enjoy posting here.

Actually the "gentleman's agreement" was for Europe and that limit is 155 mph, has nothing to do with the U.S. market cars. The U.S. market cars are limited to 130 mph for tire reasons only.

On the computer you can access "speed limiter (winter tires)" just check that this isn't activated as this lowers the standard 155mph limiter.

My uk car hits limiter at an indicated 159mph* on the digital readout active in the speedometer.

*the only casualties were a number of bugs on the windshield.
