Buying remote w/ trade

Hi Guys,
New here, but I've been following the terrific thread on pricing, etc.
I'm looking to hold off another 6-9 month for an 2009 550.

I have no problem purchasing out of state, I often do it with real estate. But here's my problem: what do you think is the best way to handle a trade? Has anyone done this? I drive a 750 and in my area of the country a car like that just won't sell privately.

Last several cars, I've just driven in my trade and taken a new one off the lot. Gone with the same German-car dealership, but they're local and not really competitive. I'll admit I've been lazy, but all this talk of the "quest for the good deal" has got me thinking of the days when I'd bargain hard.

Thanks for any advice,

Nyla

Just my plain opinion of course - no Confucius-type wisdom here:

1) Sell your car on cars.com, autotrader.com and/or carsdirect.com. I have sold many of my own, parents', sisters', etc. cars on those sites and have never had a problem. In a couple of instances, I've sold the cars for MORE than the asking price due to the out-bidding that goes on. Unlike ebay or whatever, those sites are simple to use - just take a few pics of your car, post it on there, and pay the nominal $15-$35 fee depending on the site. I've had great success with cars.com and autotrader.

2) Talk to multiple dealerships on new car pricing. Be courteous and show the salesman that you are not just another internet hack looking to get a bottom line quote and then have someone else beat it. Get in good with a few salesmen, earn their trust and get them to work for you to give you the best deal. Everything else will take care of itself.

Your timing is good although I'm not sure why you want to wait for an 09 model - the car will remain the same (looks-wise at least) for the next 3-5 years I assume. The economy is really starting to tank with gas prices soaring and the CPI inching up. So, I assume not many have an appetite to blow some change on a gas guzzling 100k machine....

Good luck and keep us posted.

Update on S550 pricing:

It's now very apparent that $10,000 off MSRP is pretty standard. With each day bringing more bad news about a recession, rising gas prices, infaltion, fed rate cuts, etc. I can't see how further discounts won't be forthcoming.

Those of you looking to jump into a new S550 - this is as good as it gets.

I think

Depreciating assets depreciate faster when the economy blows. Still better off leasing

Why would anyone want to take over a lease when you can march down to the dealership and get a new one, get approximately the same terms, and have the same payment??
The only way taking over a lease payment would make sense is if the seller throws in the amount of the depreciation (the hit) along with the transfer. In this case , you would have to probably give someone $15K just to get the offer rolling.
Let's be real.
