Tolltag problems

It doesn't register unless I roll down the window and hold it out...Anyone else had problems with this? I went to the tolltag shop and got a new one and same problem...

I have a similar problem with all my cars, except the CLK, because it doesn't have the infrared reflective glass. I tried to explain to the morons at SunPass that my cars have special glass which sometimes blocks the signal from the transceiver, but they simply told me to replace the (new) batteries on the transceivers. I nodded "yes" and made sure all my license plates are registered with SunPass and that I absolutely always go through the toll at a little less than the posted speed limit. That way, if the transceiver doesn't register and the picture shows my tag and speed, I don't get a ticket for blowing a toll. You may be able to do something similar. FWIW, I have to press the buttons on the rearview mirror a few times also to get the signal out to open my gate/garage. It's just a quirk of the infrared glass. Hope this helps.

there is a little spot at the top of the windscreen next to the rearview mirror that has less RF reflectivity.. Most tolltags work there with a bit of positioning...

The car manual should show the exact positions. Usually it is at the top on both sides of the rear view mirror area and often also at the bottom of the windscreen at the centre. Cars with night view would only have it on the left side of the rear view mirror.

Or you can look at the windshield from in front of the car on different angles and see the cutouts

in illinois, they allow us to use a license plate mounted toll tag instead of the inside-the-front-window mount. that's what i do - it screws right on to the top of the front license plate (top two screws) and works perfectly. just a suggestion for those whose states allow such a conveyance (and for those of you that are mandated to have front plates - like illinois). alternatively, i also recall seeing someing in the owner's manual showing a description of where on the window you can mount the tag on the inside (i.e., certain areas are non-coated and allow transmission).

I live in dallas and have had tolltag issues too. We managed to fit it into that tiny gap where the cutout for the tag is (as displayed in the manual) and go it working.

Thanks, I live in Dallas too, and thought I had the tag in the correct position as indicated in the manual...However, after I pulled into my garage where there was no sunlight, I was able to see the cutouts were below where I had the tag. I've moved it so hopefully this fixes it. Thanks all for your help.
