Guys, slightly off topic, has anyone compared a S600 with ECU work (Carlsson or Renntech) to a stock S65? Does the modded S600 still a step slower than the S65?

Mine has been Rennteched in the ECU and TCU dept. but I can't answer your question because, believe it or not, I've never had the opportunity to drive an S65. Never even laid eyes on one yet in person.
My educated guess would be that the S65 is going to slightly outperform my car but not by much. In fact, according to the Renntech figures, mine is supposed to be 10 extra HP and 2 lb/ft stronger, but I doubt it in reality. Regardless, my car is a beast in terms of power and the Renntech upgrade does make it hop off the start line quicker than stock. Whether or not it is worth the trouble and money is still up in the air.
If I were starting from scratch and had the money, I'd have chosen the S65 (even if slightly used). The S600 is EXTREMELY nice as a consolation prize. It is so quiet and so spoiling. Every time I get into another vehicle, ...any vehicle...., I realize how nice my car is. That reality hits you hard whenever you have to drive another type of car (like a rental , or whenever you go out and test drive cars just for fun).
I will have to say that I did like the Audi W12. It was the only non-MB car that sparked my interest after buying my current car but it still falls a tad short of the S600.

The newest version of BMW is yet to get my review as I've not seen one yet. The local BMW dealership is snobby and I think they do that to me because they know I'm not going to buy one of their cars.

Alright, so I have created this hierarchy of cars im considering
-S65 AMG
-S600
-S63 AMG
-Maserati Quattroporte

The cars are ranked in order of quality regardless of price from what advice Ive gotten from you guys (Thanks btw, very helpful!) and my research

What I am looking at is around $80K to purchase an S600, with under 15K miles most likely, or $95-100K to purchase an S65, with around 30K miles most likely, maybe less after searching for a deal/waiting for the economy to hit these cars greater -- Now, I know that the resale value of a 4-5 year old S65 from now driven 10-12K miles a year wouldent be so hot, im approximating $35K at most resale, buying the car at $100K. Is that realistic? Considering the S600 would be at $30K at resale in that time period buying it at $80K, are:

1- These assumptions correct/close
2- Basically up to a test drive to find out if the extra $15K net is worth that step up to the S65/justified?

Thanks for all the help!

Just test drove both side by side -- There is 100% absolutely no comparison the S65 is superior to the S600 in every performance category, and the exterior of the S65 is much better IMO than the S600 due to its more agressive and sporty look.

Now its time to decide if I can afford it

An S65 at Manheim just went for $94K with 23K miles. Counting on that I can get one at that same price with the same mileage, averaging 13-14K miles a year at most

A S65 with an MSRP of almost $200K from 07 with 77K miles in 4 years will be worth approximately:

$45-48K right before Model Change
$35-38K right after Model Change

Therefore, is it feasible to estimate if I buy an S65 at $95K right now with 23K miles, putting 13.5K miles a year on it, I will be able to sell it at (best case yet reasonable) 45K in 4 years, or (worst case or mabye just the real case) 35K in 4 years, all with 77 K miles on it.

If I can get 45-48K for it in 4 years, then I think ive found a winner, but im not sure that its that far fetched considering S55AMGs with 500hp are going for 35K and do not have the 200K MSRP.

Is there any difference in service/repair costs between the 65 and 600? Lets say that after the warranty ends is there a big difference between the two? If there is no difference then definitely go for the S65. Just dont know if any independent shops can do a good job on the 6.0 engine.
