Would you buy an extended warranty ?
I am thinking about buying a used S550 with about 35,000 miles on it and I am wondering if you guys would buy an extended warranty on these cars based on your experiance ?
The cars history is clean and it has been serviced.
From what I can tell, this series has been rock solid but I just wanted to ask the question to make sure.
Thanks,
Seve E.

Since you're buying used the MBNA factory extended warranty will not be available to you. I would not bother with any aftermarket third party warranties that will only give you a false sense of security (in my opinion.)

1. The car cannot have a CPO warranty on it, present or past.
2. The car must be bought from a dealer (MB or non-MB) and not private party.
3. The car must be inspected by MB, and not gray market, salvage title, etc.
I know, I went through this process about 2 months ago. I have the MB 100K/7 year warranty. Considering the electronics, and complexity of the car, it may be well worth it. One repair could cover most of the cost of the warranty.

Actually, that was changed. MBUSA is allowing their warranties to be purchased to used car buyers with these stipulations:
1. The car cannot have a CPO warranty on it, present or past.
2. The car must be bought from a dealer (MB or non-MB) and not private party.
3. The car must be inspected by MB, and not gray market, salvage title, etc.

Is this for any MB? Which MB in ATL do you visit?

The 100K/7 Year was $5160 (this may have gone up slightly now). It may sound steep, but think of how much just one system failure may cost. I was on the fence for a long time myself to be honest, but after crunching numbers, talking with SA's and other owners this warranty is worth it. No question about labor rates, partial coverage, blah, blah, blah. All MB dealers and shops accept it too.
Added note: This is a $0 deductible, so consider that as well. Those deductibles on other warranties add up.

Any MB, but go to RBM of Atlanta, ask for Sabrina. She will go over the details, top to bottom. She was very good, 15 years of dealing with warranties and understood I had questions, concerns, and wanted to be exactly sure of what I was getting before I signed anything.
One other thing, if you have had a B Service recently (about a month) you do not have to pay the $149 inspection fee. Hint: I waited until B service was due to sign my contract.
The exclusions part is pretty small which is most important, and you know the usual suspects:
Tires, brakes, alignment, GPS and internet data, rotors, and of course getting work done by an authorized MB shop.

I've asked 3 MB"s already and they ALL have aftermarket warranties, except for RBM. I did speak with her and she quoted $3100 for 36,000/36 MO, $3600 for 48,000/48. At first I thought it wasn't too bad, until she said it was for a $500 deductable. Hmmm......I think that's actually kinda high now. I"m definitely thinking of using an aftermarket now.
I haven't received any information on it yet, did she give you a link or anything to look at online or did she just fax it to you.

Oh, FYI, the prices are not for an S, but an E.
I just got another quote for my 06 E500 from a dealer in Chico, CA
Total of 70,000 at $3100 or 85000 at $3700 w/$100 deductable. Still kinda high for a 20,000 and 35,000 warranty?

Guys I'm confused....I always thought that the only extended warranty offered by MBUSA was with zero deductible, has that changed? When did they have options on deductibles with 500 or 100?

I personally went up there, and got the paperwork which is from MBUSA, and the full MB extended warranty book that explains from top to bottom what is covered not that aftermarket which has the deductible which sounds like what you got quoted on.

No that has not changed, it has and is $0 deductible. That is not the MBUSA warranty. Go back and make sure that is, all I can say.

I asked for the factory warranty quote from both of those places and that's what they gave me. I just assumed it was correct for being a factory warranty. I told sabrina what I wanted, so I'm not sure why she would give me a different quote, but it is definiltey possible. I didn't buy it, so I'll have time to shop around.
