Sirius may be totally out by the summer so everyone should be cautious about giving money to them right now. They are not making much profit at all. It is among the list of outgoing companies that AOL featured today.

DirectTV may have to take it over.

Honestly I can't stand Sirius radio. Seems like such a waste. I only have it because you get 6 months free with the new car. The audio quality of Sirius is terrible and there never seems to be any good music on.

More than likely I will not renew my subscription. I live in a very wooded area/town and the reception keeps going in and out. I too agree with you that they just don't have any good music per format chosen. When I want to hear 70's, I want to hear some good Boston, Chicago, Steely Dan, Toto, etc., Instead , it's just one hit wonders and crap like that.

as i understand it, the lifetime subscription costs $400 (irrespective of the $100 coupon) but is not transferrable. so - it's not a bad deal if you have a portable satellite radio for which you buy the service. however, if you are using the satellite radio in your car (like me), the "lifetime" subscription ends when you sell the car or your lease is up or transfer title for some reason. i'm told that the "break-even" point is about three years. i think the bigger risk - which has been mentioned already - is whether or not the service will still be going concern in the coming years or will it fold? only you can decide if the lifetime subscription is a good deal or not for your particular circumstance.

Personally I can't drive a car without Sirius radio. Regular radio is absolutely horrible. I won't do the lifetime because my unit is built in.

The new Media Interface eliminates any reason for radio, CDs, or sat radio for me. The audio quality is excellent (unlike the previous iPod interface) and all the information comes up on the screen.

I also have 6 months free of sirius traffic which is total junk too. It is usually always wrong, I won't be paying for that either.

Not really, you are still playing MP3s (which is not good quality) and you still have to download them (costs money and takes time). I'd rather just listen to Sat radio which plays good music (BPM and Area).

Better quality than sirius though, i rip them all at 320kbps. Does anyone know what the bitrate of sirius radio is? It's definately pretty low you can hear it.

EDIT: I just searched around and it looks like Sirius broadcasts at 34kpbs

That is terrible audio quality.

Have never paid for a Sirius subscrip...nor bought an iPod (someone gave me one as a gift, o/w wouldn't have wasted my money on one)

Rarely listen to any artificial audio/BT while driving....prefer enjoying focus on music of 65 exhaust note and ergonomics of throttle/steering/brakes/chassis balance....and saving my pennies to get another new 65 more frequently....far more addictive daily dynamic entertainment than any audio nonsense....

Agreed, if I had a nice V12 to listen to I would much prefer that over any music!

WSH, you don't keep your cars long enough to have to pay for a sirius subscription. Also please explain to me what "artificial audio" is, you must drive with your A/C off to avoid breathing artificial air.

Nothing artificial, he typically travels with the actual musical artists performing in the backseat.

Wow 320kbps? That really blows! Apple lossess is close to 1028 kbps! I'd rather listen to Static!

I see KAR DON loves his satellite radio (as I myself used to)-

Sirius WAS (keyword WAS) wonderful-
UNTIL they "merged" w XM and did away with some of the best channels....

KAR DON mentioned BPM (former XM channel) as being good - in my eyes, RUBBISH!!

The Beat was 25x the Channel..... Area is not much better.....

Hot Jamz was kick-***, The Heat (XM 68) is EDITED and junk, poor selections, etc.....

I was so upset I called and cancelled all three of my radios (office, car, home) and gladly threw all the equipment in the trash.........

don't get me wrong, I thought The Beat 36 was better as well. I wanted them to bring over XM 82 The system and keep The Beat. BPM is a downgrade in my opinion.

Seems to me that since the merge, the channels take longer to change. It sometimes takes 4 to 5 seconds between channel switches before any music comes on. Not every time but most of the time.

Does anyone know how this audio quality would compare to FM?
