I mean the S600 price in the US compared to the price of the S280 on the market it is sold. This model should be on sale at countries that have huge car tax and an S280 may have a lot lower tax than the bigger engine.

As far as I know the S 280 is primarily sold in Asian markets, some of them seem to have special tax rules for cars under 3000 cc of displacement.

Wikipedia lists the w 221 S 280 as S 300.
I remember Japan applied special tax rules for cars under 2500 cc encouraging Mazda to reduce displacement on some vehicles to slightly undercut that bracket.
happy new year

The S280/S300 (same 3.0L V6 engine) is available in some European markets, and Asian markets such as Taiwan, China, Malaysia and Singapore.
You have to realize in these countries the import taxes and road taxes (to be renewed every year) on cars are extremely high, especially imported models. Furthermore, as mentioned by some, when the engine displacement is below 3000cc, these cars would fall in one bracket lower, making it 'cheaper'.
Diesel Benz would be correct in saying that in markets where the S280/S300 exist, it is more expensive than the S600 in the USA.
The S300 is still an S-Class; most Americans would probably find it underpowered but I think it's fine and still a pleasure to drive (although an S320CDI would be better had it been offered). In Asian markets, where these vehicles are often chauffeur driven, any extra power may not be necessary, not mentioning the traffic or lack of open roads.
