Cant figure out the problem does anyone know?
This sounds odd. The only thing I can think of is that your mp3 files are not mp3 but AAC or something that the car does not support or the card is not FAT/FAT32 formatted.

When you say "cannot read it," or "recognise it," is the "it" the SD card or the PCMCIA adapter? The Transcend PCMCIA SD card adapter works like a charm in any MB that I am aware of, but I'm not sure about some of the generic ones that are available. Also, what is the capacity of your SD card? If it's greater than 2GB, it's suspect.

PCMCIA Issues

I have a PC Card Reader with a Sandisk SDHC 4Gb card in it.
My cheap nav system in my 4wd has an SD mp3 reader and works fine.
My old lap top which takes a PCMCIA card reader reads the SDHC card fine.
MY C220 cand read anything when I put in the PCMCIA reader with the SDHC card in it

I have learned that there is something about the electronics of MB's system that doesn't like an SD or SDHC card greater than 2GB. I would try that ($6 or $7 for a 2GB card at many stores), copy some, not all, of your MP3s to that card, and try with your adapter. The Sandisk 6 in 1 PCMCIA adapter will also work in the C220 but finding one is a chore and they run around $35 on eBay these days. If that fails, take it to your MB dealer and make them show you a combination that works!!

On a W204 with PCMCIA interface, the car (head unit) should not be aware of the memory card being CF or SD or SD HC type. It should see the adapter and the physical interface according to the PCMCIA standard. The PCMCIA adapter should make the memory card readable through the PCMCIA interface.

W211 with NTG2.5 has a direct SD card slot and it does not support SD HC cards. Most SD cards above 2GB are SD HC cards.

I would suggest trying Compact Flash cards, less hassle. But I've been using a Sandisk PCMCIA adapter with 8 GB SD HC cards too. The confusion with PCMCIA SD card adapter comes from very similar looking adapters supporting or not supporting SD HC cards. On the W204 forum one can find photos of both types of Sandisk PCMCIA to SD (HC) card adapters.

Just buy a cheap PCMIA card adapter on Ebay, and get a CF card to store your data on. I think my card is a 16gb card. Others have suggested lower capacity cards, but fwiw mine works fine w/ 16gb. I'll post a link below to the adapter I bought....

I didn't see this one, when I bought mine. It comes with an SD card, so the price isn't bad. But, it would probably be a long trip over from China, considering all the shipping logistics problems currently. I'd doubt it is a genuine MB part also, coming from China, but if it works it probably doesn't matter. I went w/ the CF card just because my wife is a photographer, and had a bunch of extra cards sitting around.
