$5000 down / $1280 a month good?

Hi all,

Read through the forums, didn't find much information regarding the current pricing of the S-class. I was wondering what you guys think of this lease offer:

2009 S550 MSRP ~$98500
AMG, P2, ipod. Also some accessories, pinstriped wheels rear trunk spoiler and roof spoiler (dealer pre-installed $2995 option).

specs:
10k/year
48 month lease
5000 total down include first month and taxes,
1280/month tax included in that price

Car is the older 09 price, that's why it has the AMG package and p2 for under 99000. Thanks alot guys!

-Pete

Addendum

The MSRP is around 98500, and the 2995 option is on top of that. So around 102500 if you add in the dealer installed options. Thanks.

Smells wrong

Any dealer that puts tacky dealer-installed options on cars is suspicious; not worthy of legit buyers; and unlikely to be offering best value or terms

Glut of new S550s of historic proportions exists all over US, w/heavy discts (and MB-subsidized lease terms) easily available

Be picky about quality of dealer and getting car of desired color/options

Know cap cost of lease (essentially the price of car if one were to write a check to buy it); rarely makes any sense to put a dollar down on any lease; know money factor and residual of lease...get mthly lease terms (incl tx) for 24-36-48 mos w/minim miles to rationally compare; which state are you in? (leases' sales tx calc vary by state for one to judge best value); how long do you realistically plan to keep car?...and is your credit rating worthy of cheapest lease terms?

Most dealer salesguys and custs have a poor understanding of basic lease math/mechanics, so much smoke and mirrors exist around lease terms...but most astute <40yo guys have never bought a car in their lives...$0-down leases are almost always cheaper/more efficient than buying, if rationally structured....

Thanks for the reply. I am also in california. I plan to return the car at the end of the lease. As for the money factor and residual, the promotion is on 36 and 48 from the factory, mbz website is 6993 down with 1199 a month for a 93k car not including tax. Since I am not keeping the car, how they play with the numbers I don't really care, they can juggle the cap reduced sale price, mf, and residual all they want. I just care how much I pay. I was hoping others had experience with leasing a similarly equipped S recently and could share their numbers with me. Thanks again! By the way my math was wrong earlier, 98500+3000 = 101500 roughly. Obviously I know the dealer accessories are rip offs, but if the numbers are fine I don't mind the accessories.

Wow that was some deal. Esp for last year. They basically discounted the car to 93k, while giving you a interest free loan for 4 years. With a "free" buy option.

That IS a great deal! Especially with the 15k mileage allowance. Basically get to drive it 50% more often. Thanks for the reply nitro that is definitely a helpful reference point
