What's Your Opion On These Wheels?
 

Wells guys I've been doing some research on a few different wheels for my S550, I'm looking at a staggered config with either 20" or 22" diameter. Take a look at the wheels below and tell me what you think?

Having just upgraded to 20", I would offer the following suggestions..

(1) Find out the weight of each RIM, and go with the lightest
(2) Stick to 20"

The bigger the diameter, the smaller the side wall, but more important the higher the PSI you will need to run. Higher PSI is going to change the quality no matter what people say...

Moving up from 19 to 20, (droping from 40 series to 35 series tires) the recommended pressure went from 35/37 to 42/44.

With a 25 series sidewall, you will probably be looking at 48-50 PSI.

What type of wheels did you go with?

I posted a picture in this forum a couple weeks ago. I went with the 20" AMG twin spoke wheels.

Yeah I remember your ride, it looks good and had even thought about the Monarch Euro 63RS wheels since they resemble the AMG wheels. I want a nice set of wheels with a decent lip that will add to the car's appearance, but I don't want the ghetto effect. Just nice and sporty.

I have the second rim on my s550 (Asanti AF 144). I painted the black white and the lip white , but the wheels are currently in process of painting it back to black and leaving lip white.

That isn't the case, you must look at the MAX psi the tire can handle, and match that as closely as possible to the original size tire MAX psi. Just because you run as low as a 25 series tire doesn't mean you will need to run such high air pressures. If you have the S550 with staggered tires from the factory (Continental or Dunlop) you will have the following load indexes.

Continental - 100Y front and 101Y rear. That means at max pressure (51psi) you have 1764lbs front (per tire) and 1819lbs rear (per tire) of effective load carrying. That means that at max pressure the Continentals can carry 7166lbs, that is 2701lbs MORE than the S550's curb weight is. Accounting for driver and cargo (even several hundred pounds) you will barely be exceeding 5000lbs (maybe 5500lbs with 5 people and cargo).

If you get as close to the OE load ratings as possible, you could actually bring the tire pressure down quite a bit, and possibly even at factory levels. The tire load index on my 19s exceeds my OE specs, and I keep them at near OE levels. I did put them up slightly for performance, but that is it.

I would do 21" wheels personally. But from the above choices the second from the right in my opinion is the nicest, and most unique choice.

Thanks, the AF144 are nasty, only issue I see with getting 21s is that the tires are a bit more expensive and hard to find.

Have you guys seen Ansanti's new ELT Series wheels, apparently these ELT 144s come with a 6.5 to 9" lip? Crazy

Its a guy on bimmerfest.com with the same handle as your's and he's from Canada as well, that's why I asked. The ELT Series have some serious lips on them.

Either way, your car will look good! I love Asanti's! But I don't like the cost of them.....I can't stand fake 3 piece wheels but these look great! Are you meaning, painting the inside black and leaving the lip chrome, that would look awesome on your car! They are cheap compared....The company is called Fortune Alloy, they should be on MBworld soon...

Yeah, I want a style like the first two wheels at the start of the post, chrome lip is a must.

Savini Forged makes some nice product, if you call them direct talk to Lawrence. And actually they were the first with the "Extreme Lip Technology".

Yeah, I do like those SV-23s, they look just like the AF 144. The MHTs aren't bad either, white ride sitting on chrome always look good.

Does anyone know if 265/30ZR22 will fit the S550, I already have a set of tires (265/30ZR22 front and 295/25ZR22 rear) that I had on my 750Li? Their only about 6 months old with less than 2K miles on them.

Depends on the wheel offset. The suggested size is 245/30-22, but its certainly possible, test fitting is required. The rear should be cake.

I will definitely have to check it out, I just got a good price for both the 1pc AF144s and an even better price for the Symbolic CV-15s. It looks like I will go head and pick the wheels below.

Okay I purchased the Symbolic CV-15 2 tone wheels on Thursday and they get installed on Wednesday, I'll post some pictures later in the week.

Yes I had to us the 265s, also the front wheels look aggressive and the rears wheels are tucked in, but I plan on putting some spacers in the back to make the rear equally as aggressive as the front.
