iphone - problems with BT and cradle

I've just bought an iphone and want to use it in my 08 S65. I tried the bluetooth puck but don't like the fact that the BT won't turn off with the car, meaning I can't use the phone outside the car unless I'm some distance away. The dealer said many customers complain that their mobile is useless at home if the car is nearby. My salesman says there is no solution to this. Seems kinda dumb....

So I tried the iphone cradle instead but we couldn't get it working. The salesman hadn't used the cradle before. It plugged in to the console OK but no phone signal on the Comand. He thinks this new 3G iphone cradle might only work on 09 cars. Can anyone confirm this?

It is frustrating that I can't use the iphone in the car. Back to the trusty Nokia....

Umm, the BT cradle DOES turn off with the car. Turns off when the car is off in all of my cars (excluding the S500, of course).

BT will turn off with the car, unless of course you're on the phone. Which is quite annoying at times. I will be on the telephone using BT however when i reach my destination and try to turn the car off, the BT/COMAND will stay on until i end my phone call.

On the iPhone during the call:

"Audio Source" -> "iPhone"

Switches call from MB_phonesystem (bluetooth) to the iPhone.

Am I missing something? (probably).

Thanks guys. I returned to the dealer and read the manual this time. Got the new 3G cradle working nicely and bought it. Unlike my Nokia cradle, the iphone works plugged in or in my pocket through BT.

When I have a little more time, I'll get the dongle thingy wired up for the music too. Anyone done this yet? I don't think my dealer has done one yet. Does the track info show in the Comand? I sure hope so.

Don't get your hopes up, the music interface for the iPhone/iPod is absolutely terrible. The only reason i don't regret getting the iPod kit with my vehicle is so i can charge my iphone, that is pretty much all its good for.

Do you have the 3G iphone cradle or the glovebox ipod connector? I've got the glovebox ipod thing and hate it. I've got all my music on DVDs in the stacker. I was hoping the new iphone cradle would give me track info on the Comand - no?

I'm disappointed to find SMS isn't supported by the iphone cradle although it is with the Nokia cradle

In the instructions, you have to manually disconnect the BT if you are at home or wait for it to time out. For everyone but a 2007+ S-Class owner, you can just press and hold the TEL button. The BT puck works very well if you have the latest model and this is all detailed in the user manual found here http://www.wireless4mb.com/user_manu...SA_SLR_Web.pdf. Or you can easily just turn off bluetooth on the phone in settings and turn it back on and it will disconnect. I didn't realize there was a 3-g iphone cradle. I read that S-Class owners have reception issues with the BT puck and the glass. Anyway, just thought I would share some insight.

Disconnecting the Bluetooth®-connection
manually
The connection between the mobile telephone
and the Mercedes-Benz Cradle adaptor
with Bluetooth® can be disconnected at any
time by using the mobile telephone (see the
mobile telephone manual).
To disconnect the paired mobile telephone
from Mercedes-Benz Cradle adaptor with
Bluetooth® using the COMAND or radio.
Valid for all Mercedes-Benz vehicles with the
exception of the model year 2007 S-Class:
• Press and hold TEL button on the
COMAND or radio for approx.
3 seconds.
Model year 2007 S-Class vehicles:
• Using the COMAND Controller, select
"Telephone" "Telephone" "Telephone
off".
Note
If a phone call is in progress, the connection
can only be disconnected directly on the
mobile telephone

Thanks for the additional info. The BT seems to time out quickly in the S65 after switching off the car but I bought the iphone kit (3G) for my wife's E500 as well and it takes longer to time out so the info you have provided here is very handy.

Re 3G iphone kit availability, yes they are only just now available. I got the first 2 kits into the dealer and they show 3/09 build date on the box. I'd been holding off on the iphone until I could get a kit for it.
