W221 Auto-headlights problem

Hi, I have a 06 S320 cdi and have a problem with the auto headlamps where no matter where the switch is the lights won't switch off until I switch off the car so currently during the day I am driving around with the xenons/sidelights on all the time (the green light below the switch remain illuminated even when on the off position). Anyone know what could be causing this? One of the number. Any ideas?

Did you accidentally activate the daytime running lights via the cluster menu?

Daytime running lights should not cause the green light to be illuminated on your switch. Sounds like a faulty light control module. On cars like these 'switches' do nothing more than send a command to a module, if the software in that module it out of whack - issues like this will arise. Dealer time, unfortunately.

It should not have been accidental but intentional, soon also mandatory throughout Europe.

Anyway, you said it more politely than "read the xxx manual".

Honestly I've never looked at the green light, will have to go and test in the car.

Edited: test performed, at least on my car the green light comes on when ever the lights are on (parking or full lights), irrespectively if they come on with DLR set on and the switch at "0" position.

What country are you in? S320 models are not available in the US. It appears to be daytime running lights. They can not be turned off for cars built for some countries. Cars built for Canada have the feature to turn them off not available. Cars for the US market can turn them on or off from a menu controlled by the left buttons on the steering wheel.

Having the same problem. My light switch will not work at all and is not illuminated at night. Also my lights are on all the time. I'm noticing the parking brake beneath it and the red SOS light above me are blinking for a moment. Any one with any ideas what this could be? Relay, fuse or switch?

Can any one help. On my 2007 mercedes s550. My light switch is not working nor illuminated. Light stay own all the time without being able to switch them off unless car is on. Cannot choose to power fog lights either. Upper dash options inoperative nor illuminated, ESP, air ride lift, etc. center clock and parking brake not illuminated. Could this be a relay. All fuses look good.

I'm looking on them fuse chart (PDF version) and it does not show relay information at all. I'd like to see what all they control. This is NOT a daytime running light issue.
