"NO TRAFFIC MESSAGES" after Nav update. PLEASE HELP!
I took my 2007 s550 to the dealer and they updated the COMMAND. The birds-eye view works, BUT the traffic feature does not!! How does the traffic update work? Every time I press on "traffic" it says "no traffic messages"! I am not sure what version of NAVTEQ MAPS I have. I do have subscription to serius radio. I live in Philadelphia PA.
What do I need to do for the traffic feature to work? Do I need to buy the latest Navteq 7.0 version update? Can it work without the Navteq update?

It can take as long as six hours depending on how out of date your firmware is. If your car has more recent firmware, it can take as little as one hour.

I did my 7.0 disc update a couple months back. I just had the command updated for birds-eye view/traffic and DVD. Birds eye works great but I get "no traffic messages" and the work order says "traffic updates not available for this vehicle". Any thoughts???

It can take 5 or 10 minutes until you receive traffic data.
I assume you live in an area that has traffic data available (most of Southern California is included). There are rare days when no traffic data has been available. I assume this is caused by a failure in the radio transmission system.
For some strange reason, I had no traffic data for a day after I loaded the version 7 DVD. Traffic data started working by itself a couple of days later and has been available most of the time.
Another possible cause-- You might have to load the DVD again. The initial version of the DVD that provided traffic would not load at all unless the Command update was done first. I am a little surprised that you were able to load the DVD without the Command update. They might have coded the version 7 DVD to not load the information for receiving traffic data if the Command system version can't use it.

This makes sense. I will try to load the DVD again. I too was surprised that it loaded prior to the command update.
Thanks!

IT WORKS
The traffic messages and traffic data started working today on my way home out of the blue! Its great. I picked my car up from the dealer Monday at lunch and Just today (Thurs) on my way home it started working. Wow. BTW I probably have one of the earliest build S classes out there so any one with an 07 can get the features with command firmware update and 7.0 DVD software update. Its worth it!

But that would be cool to finally have the traffic info displayed in the US too.

Do you have a Euro or US COMAND? I'm using a Euro COMAND in my E-Class and have RDS activated but all I get is the standard song/artist info and TMC doesn't work either since I believe the US doesn't have such system implemented.

2007 and early 2008 models need a firmware upgrade for it to work. Service is provided under a free lifetime subscription arrangement MBUSA set up with NAVTEQ which provides the service only for these vehicles.
2010 models use Sirius traffic and require a paid subscription. Sirius traffic is also available on some other 2009 models (E-class and others)

RDS traffic is available in US only for 2007-2009 S-Class(W221) and CL (W216).

How does the RDS traffic show up on the COMAND navigation screen? Does it show up visually on the navigation unit or is it a separate FM channel or mode in the COMAND system to see traffic informaiton/updates?

What did the dealership charge to update the command system? Was it worth it to get birds-eye?

so i got the traffic to work..it doesn't work initially but i think driving it around for while it kicked in and started to work.
I think anybody who updated their telematics and then upgraded their DVD to get birds eye will initially have no traffic but just be patient and it will eventually work...
