S550 and Fastrak

Do you guys find that Fastrak never works when going over a toll road paystop? It seems like either our front windshield or the signal going out of our cars from the cruise control feature messes up the signal between the fastrak and the toll booths.

Anyone found a good position on the windshield for the fastrak thing? I just received a mail from Tollroads saying they will start charging me if they have to run my plates again to ding my account for the toll fees.

Thanks.

Check the owners manual for placement. I believe there are four "clear glass" locations on the front windshield to place such devices. I have my gate transponder placed in one of the spots to the right of the rear view mirror.
I think the locations are to the left and right of mirror and two more at the base of the windshield.

I have PA EZ Pass transponder mounted on the windshield directly under the mount for the rear view mirror...no issues at all.

Had the same problem, called the toll roads and they issued me a transponder to be installed externally through the front or rear plates, they know about these problems regarding mbenz and bmw's, placing the regular transponder on certain locations on the windshield did not work for me either.

The best option is to keep the normal transponder unit inside your glovebox and pull it out only when you go through a toll. Just hold it out the window as you drive through. Then put it back in the glovebox.

The external transponders are ugly and prone to theft/vandalism.
