S500 - Manual mode

I have recently purchased a 2 year old S500.

If i select the "Manual" option (using the gear shift buttons behind the steering wheel) do i have to change up or can i allow the car to do this itself? In the manual it mentions something about how not switcjing up a gear can allow the rev counter to move into the "red" area which in turn can damage the engine.

Basically, what i am asking is this: can i allow the car to shift up and down itself in Manual (M) Mode with no worries of any engine damage - especially if i accelerate heavly?

Cheers.

manual means U shift up and down yourself. thus MANUAL
keep it at auto and it does itself. yes U will damage the engine by leaving at manual and not up or downshifting manually

I accidently many times switch to manual mode instead of sports and floor the car. Is it bad?
