Hmm... That's odd. It's been doing it since day one, even with the latest software update. No matter what I leave the volume set on, it always goes back to the same preset. I've always thought it was normal. If not, this is the first real issue I've had with the car... besides the next thing I'm about to mention.

Something else I hate about my S-Class is that it has a very loud annoying rattle coming from the headliner in the rear, where it meets the rear glass window. I had the wife drive while I sat in the back. On bumpy roads, RATTLE RATTLE RATTLE (more like a really loud vibration, I suppose). When I push up against it, it stops. I can even stick a few fingers in between the gap. This is what I'm talking about:



I'm assuming that gap isn't supposed to be there. If any W221 owners wouldn't mind checking...

EDIT: One more thing I hate is that neither of my keys work. Luckily Keyless Go still does.
...Can you say I need to schedule a trip to the dealer or what?

Our S600 has the same gap that's in your picture. I was wondering if this was normal as well, until you posted the pic. The headliner feels pretty loose back there, especially towards the middle.

fwiw - i just checked my headliner (s550) and do not have the gap or the looseness or the rattle.

In the meantime - I don't have any rattles or vibrations.

You need to get this looked into. It's not normal unless it may have something to do with one of the "preset specific-user feature" things where if you're using , say, your wife's key instead of your key, the car thinks she is getting into the car and she may have it set up that way. I've never really cared for these features as I'm the only one that ever drives my car.

we are looking at replacing wifey's R350 (with 22" amg style wheels) great FUNCTIONAL truck with a 07 s550 with the AMG package. We like the ability to move the passenger set from the drivers side so we can move the seat forward to allow the kids (still in boosters) to walk across from the drivers side to the passenger side at the school car pool lane.

I am a little confused with how the heck you change the radio stations. We have not gotten the car yet but we are looking !!! Her truck was placed on lease-trader and all the doc's have been executed and were sent to MB yesterday. SO WE NEED A CAR NOW

I have the 08 E series and LOVE the functionality of it. WHATEVER you want to do is just one button away. No silly knob to figure out how to do . . . . . . . . . .

I'm not the biggest fan of the single knob (I-drive) style controller but after about 2 months I got used to it and run through things quickly. It does keep the dash from being heavily cluttered with knobs and buttons. The only problem is when a passenger unfamiliar with the car wants to do something simple, like change stations, it becomes a problem and becomes a negative discussion when it's someone who is not tech savvy. Fortunately, my wife and kids are tech savvy and they are 99% of the time the only ones in the shot-gun seat. The current MB S class is for someone who wants to drive their own personal daily limousine and be in control of things while pampering their riding guests.
I usually just tell them the basics like how to change the air temp and seat adjustments and from there on they usually admire the car and its comfortable ride.

As far as radio station changes, make sure the radio screen is on, and then type in the radio frequency on the phone pad in the console. That's the way I do it or I will use the voice command and say the frequency, but usually I'm listening to satellite radio or a CD.

My headliner was lose in the middle of the back as well on 600. The dealer got it fixed. Never rattled.

Also here in S CA I often keep the air cond off and just use vent. However in the summer I use air cond a lot more often but still like vent for cool evenings. I always had to go into the command menu to turn the A/C on and off. I didn't like it running on its own and should have an external a/c on/off button.

excuse me but how could anyone not like S600. S600 is the only car for a man. I tell it like it is. I laugh when i see people in bmw lexus or audi cars because they think they are real people. It is funny when i drive by in my S600 and throw lit cigarettes at them. they deserve it. buy a mans car.

in Russia you would be considered a stupid little girl for not having S600s

Perhaps some entertainment is good at times. But I'd say for that owner that the one who deserves an S600 would not need to make any noise about it and would have the nerves to ignore posts that irritate him. Us who don't have one, are allowed to loose our temper. So what would he/she think about an S65AMG?

I think there is one small thing that should work better, navi cannot give you directions to the city center - you have to select a street when you want to enter a city. If you don't know the street name or you don't want to type it in if you know the city already, you have to select the first street on the list or a random one.
