I am approaching 18,000 miles still on my original tires front and back... probably time to start thinking about replacing them...

I'm a fairly conservative driver for the most part, in other words, I don't really hot-dog my car at all. In fact, the only reason I love a V12 is because of the smoothness of the engine and the power WHEN I NEED IT. Otherwise, I drive it like a 6 cylinder Camry. I mainly drive in a small town with a lot of STOP signs so my brake pads are more in danger than my tires.
Right now, I have Sumitomo tires on both of my Benzes and I like them so far. They are far less costly than Michelins and seem to be just as smooth. I can get a set of 4 for the cost of 3 Michelins (although I'd still love to have Michelins because deep down I know they are probably better), but for my circumstances and driving patterns and needs, the Sumitomos are just fine with me.

Somehow, every car I've bought never comes with Conti's, I always get Michelins when the car is new so I can't compare those.
As far as noise, the Sumitomos are just as quiet as Michelins. At least I don't notice any problem. Mine now have around 8K miles on them and doing great.

my original dunlops lasted 12K. I put michelin pilot sports after that. Ride was significantly better and tread wear has been better, I think I can get 15K out of these tires.
Your tread wear is unusual.

I would be riding a bike everyday to my work as it is only 1 1/2 miles from home but there is one dangerous section with no sidewalks that keeps me from it.

I have 20" AMG's fitted. 20,000 on the rear and 24,000 on the front, Continentals fitted from new. I am now trying Falkens 456's, have done 10,000 miles so far, very pleased with them, good grip and quite. They are becoming very popular in the UK, i don't know if you have them in the U.S.
