Transmission noise

On the S550's I've seen, when shifting the transmission into reverse or drive or back into Park there is a brief scratching/grinding noise. I've heard this may be a solenoid engaging or disengaging on the transmission. Has anyone else heard this noise? Is this a normal function of the car?

Thanks for any input.

Ew, that doesn't sound right. Is this specific to the W221's? My 7G Tronic E-Class doesn't do this at all.

Is it a problem or a normal-working-order situation with the 221's?

Happens with the 7G with the column shifter. I think the noise is less obvious on the newer models though.
