Help Me Please - 2007 S550 Brakes Squealing

Yesterday, I upgraded my 2007 18inch OEM wheels to a set of 19in CLS55 AMG Wheels. (Great Deal) They look Great!

I drive off and my brakes start squealing like nobodies business. I'm at 40k miles and I just had a service C and with the other tires, I had not a sound. Is this just ironic or am I dealing with some serious issue?

The sound is unbearable! FYI, the sensors won't fit on the front rims because the CLS55 doesn't have the sensors in the wheels, only my S550 does. So I've got the indicator light bothering me!

Are you experiencing the squeal while driving(accelerating or coasting)or only when you apply the brakes? Are you able to localize the squeal to one wheel or is it coming from all four?

Changing wheels should not cause this kind of problem but if it started right after your wheel change then logic implies a direct correlation. I am gonna make a wild suggestion and ask you to check the tightness of lug nuts. If an air impact wrench was used, they could be over tight. Get a torque wrench and torque it to the proper level.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the reply.

The squeeking takes place only when I am riding. It goes away at higher speeds, but I have taken the wheels off twice to see if I couldn't isolate the sound. It is officially coming from the two rear brake calipers and that is certain.

I think that it's just a freak of luck that I changed the wheels yesterday and now my rear brakes are yelling at me.

Check if the lugs bolts aren't too long, I have changed wheels where it required shorter lugs; original were too long bolts that rub against the rear hub and squeal.

That is a very Good idea! I had the dealership just offer to do a brake diagnostic for $295. Where can I get the lug nuts? Also, I lost the use of the from sensor because the OEM S Class wheels are very different then these. Know where I can get small sensors as well?

Proper Torque For s550 Lug Nuts?

The suggestion to check if lugs were torqued too tight is a good one...what is the proper torque for the s550 lugs?...and are front and back the same???

I have searched, but can't find the info...

Check with Jake from Tire Rack for the sensors and the lugs, I know personally they have the TPS for $62.00 a piece. The cheapest I found anywhere. I get what sounds like break squeal from time to time with my aftermarket wheels, but no sound with my OEM wheels so I think it does have to do with the wheels. By the way, the CLS wheel look pretty good on your ride.

How come you didn't get the 19" AMG wheel that goes on S550?

OK.

Every Tom, Dick and Harry is telling me that the Wheels are the culprit. Most are saying that I need to get spacers and shorter lug nutz.

I have lost the use of my sensors altogether and I have to admit, I cannot ignore the blinking tire indicator. TDWayne, I will look to tirerack for the sensors because the dealership has them in stock for just under $250 each.

Keep the info coming!

I will take

Apparently, the bootleg tire shop put my new AMG wheels on my car with Studs that were too long. They pushed right thru to hit my parking / ebrakes. They've knocked a spring loose and now it's all jacked up inside my rear rotors.

I have to buy parts at the dealership tomorrow. At least I know whats wrong.
