you need to include your location, insurance costs are extremely location-dependent.

I have a clean record and pay $465 every 6 months using State Farm in Southern California for a 2007 CL550 which is a more expensive vehicle that the S550 for full coverage, $1000 deductible.

2007 S550 Designo (100k+ new sticker). Green Bay, WI. Full coverage (uninsured motorist etc.) is $580/six mos. $500 deductible. Clean driving record. Wife, two children, both under 25 (wish wife was.....), on car and covered. Pretty decent, imo.

It all depends on what other policies you have with the insurance company (i.e. homeowner's, other cars, and so on). I asked my agent to re-run the quote just for the 2010 S550 and it came to about $1700 per year for the full coverage ($250 deductible with the waiver if you're not at fault during a collision).

Liability only depends on the driver, not the car.

Why are you using $250 deductible? If you can afford an S550, you can afford $1000 deductible in the unlikely event that you caused the damage. This should lower your insurance cost.

Since I can afford the S550, I can afford the current insurance premium. A single insurance claim will invalidate the supposed marginal savings by increasing the deductible.

All I know is an '07 S550 would have cost me more to insure than an '06 CLS55 AMG would have, and about 300-400% more than my brand new E350 (which has a higher Blue Book at the moment at that) did. No idea why.
