S320 CDI L
S Class Long ... MUDFLAPS..

Hi Guys, been lurking on here for a while now and have got a lot of tips!

Keep up the good work..

I have a 2006 S320 CDI L in Iridium Silver.
I was browsing on ebay the other day and saw a local Merc franchised dealer selling some bits on there, including some brand new mudflaps, i've had nasty tar marks up the side of my car so decided to buy them.

Unfortunately the dealer just chucked them in a box, with no fitting instructions. Any of you guys fitted some before?

Do you have to drill into the car to get these on? Have lined them up properly and on the botton of the bumper and within the wheel arch there are no holes where the holes are in the flap, so presuming this is the case, not overly keen on drilling into my £60k Merc!! but if thats how you do it, guess it will have to be done..

Also, have any of you painted the flaps, they look 'ok' in black plastic, and do the job well as they are huge, but thinking i may spray them up before i put them on. Can you just do this to them, with the right colour obviously, or do you need to get them done by a body shop or something?

Sorry for the thick questions, but im an office boy, not a DIY expert unfortunately..

Thanks in advance..

I don't think anyone has ever installed mudflaps on an S550. Kind of like putting on a bug guard on the car, it just looks

I don't mind if other owners give their opinion about the looks but it is not our car, let the owner decide what to do with it. After all, some put awful body kits to their W221, if you have seen the 221 flaps, the OEM flaps are painted to the body colour and are not even easy to notice.

Anyway, I can provide installation instructions, just PM me your email address. It does not need drilling any holes, I don't think even to the plastic parts.

Agreed - The mudflaps are official MB design and are far more harmonious than many of the hot rod parts I've seen on this forum!

I agree, they are OEM and depending on the part of the world where you live they may come practical. I have nothing against them I would just not install them on my car but you are right it's still better then some ghetto tuning that is very common esp. in US

This is probably the only reason why I don't like the lower (compared to the rest of the world) US MSRP on W221. The consequently lower resale values encourage those "bigger Civic" transformations that ruin the beautiful car.

Perhaps you are looking at the values the wrong way. I love the lower resales because we can find the best at lower prices! We're looking at S550's right now.

I'm looking at it from a completely egocentric standpoint as I buy my cars brand new. I'm not disputing that the lower resale values are very advantageous to those who are looking for a preowned W221 at a reasonable price. However, the results of some "tuning" projects that the early (and hence very affordable) MY2007 cars are going through right now make me shiver.

You are right. You can never see this in Germany or western Europe to be honest.
For example in Germany you buy the car as the last property.. and people judge you usually "you don't need their money" because you got an S class. So that's why most businessman and rich people like to understate themselves and instead of an S buy an E-Class, etc. .. then the S is only for the very rich which makes it even more exquisite which is good good unless you drive it somewhere and want a discount
In eastern Europe it is vice versa, you buy a car and then you are glad you can make it to your next rent but it makes sense too in it's cultural way

They are not my choice but they do not look all that bad. They are not as bad as some of the "wagon wheels" that some people put on their S Class cars. At least they are OEM parts not ones sourced in the Ghetto!
