4matic winter driving

Tired of driving a SUV & thinking of selling the Range Rover S/C. Does the s550 4matic provide real winter driving? The Range Rover never gets stuck in the snow...How is the s550 4matic?

The best or nothing
4matic works well imo .. I can compare it to BMW X-Drive only though.. I spent last winter in Central Europe (5months of snow or harsh weather basically) and was absolutely happy with the performance of 4matic (with winter tires of course)

I have owned my s550 4matic for 2 winters and the last winter was record setting snow and cold. I put Blizzak 19" snow tires on my AMG wheels and i think i could drive it up a wall....a snow covered ice packed wall.It is the most secure feeling you can have, very solid no issuses at all.It feels as solid/secure as my ml.You will not regret your choice if you go with a s550 4matic.

Thumbs up 4matic winter driving

A winter service vehicle (WSV), or snow removal vehicle, is used to clear thoroughfares of ice and snow.Winter service vehicles are usually based on dump truck chassis, with adaptations allowing them to carry specially designed snow removal equipment. Many authorities also use smaller vehicles on sidewalks, footpaths, and cycleways. Road maintenance agencies and contractors in temperate or polar areas often own several winter service vehicles, using them to keep the roads clear of snow and ice and safe for driving during winter

My 2004 S500 4Matic was unstoppable in the winter time, and it even ran all-season tires. I have a steep driveway and I never got stranded at the bottom (of course, I plow my own driveway all the time).

I have Continental summer tires on my new 2010 S550 4Matic, they are mounted on the 20" wheels that are part of the Sport Package Plus 1. The dealer is shipping me a set of 18" wheels with Bridgestone Blizzak tires. I was worried about winter driving at first. Now, I am confident that the car will be able to take on anything. Don't forget to raise the airmatic suspension to its highest level if you're driving over uneven snow packed roads. You'll be fine. 4Matic is great for the winter - I don't think you'll miss the Rangie much.

Winter tires are a key ingredient of how an AWD car does in snow....now, don't even think about taking the S OFF the road, it'll be stuck in about two seconds compared to the ground clearance of your RR
