Traffic was working, not anymore
My 2010 traffic has its own ESN number and requires a separate subscription to Sirius to work.
I've read on this forum that older cars' traffic just works on existing (free) RDS.
2007, 2008, and 2009 models get traffic information via RDS which is broadcast by FM radio stations. No subscription is required for this. It is not available in all areas. There have been occasional time periods when no traffic is available.
It also may take several minutes for traffic information to appear. This depends on how often it is broadcast in your area.

I too have not had any success in getting the RTT to work more than a day a week. For no reason it works for one trip (not even the whole day) then stops for a week or two. And this is for metro NY...
Mercedes will not help you since this was not a feature offered on 2007 vehicles.
The fact that it works for a lot of us is undocumented and most dealers will firmly state that it can't work on 2007 or early 2008 vehicles.
In order for it to work in a 2007 or early 2008 vehicle, you need to have the Telematics upgrade installed by a dealer. In the past, most refused to do this.
Once this is done, you need to load one of the more recent map DVDs. Versions 5 and newer will work for this.

Dan (RTX2008), when you signed up with Sirius, did you give them a separate traffic ESN?
Id be willing to pay for the consistency of getting traffic regularly.
