advice on purchasing used s550 or s63 from mb dealer
i'm trying to assist my parents in purchasing a preown from the dealership. they found one that they were interested in and we're thinking of going sometime in the next few days to look at it.

how much negotiation room are there for preowned cars? especially coming from a dealership, i'm assuming won't be much since it may come with some warranty.
i think the last time they tried to negotiate a price on a preowned S550 2009, they wouldn't take $2k off the sticker... i'm not sure if that was lowballing it on my parent's part though...
any advice would be great...
then i tried to make a deal on a 2010 new S550 because i've heard that a good deal could be had with dealer incentives and trunk money and what not... we picked a car with the car with the right color and packages we wanted... it was for $103k online... and i was trying to shoot for 80k which i've read some other places it was possible... but another guy ended up joining us and was telling me how that kind of mark down might be found somewhere else like the east coast... but park place texas can't do anywhere close to 20k off... he was willing to do 10k off at first...
after some more talking and stuff, we said 88k and they took a while to figure out whether they could do it... then they came back with a quote on paper with 88k on it... and with all the taxes and fees it showed 94k... and asked if we would take this right now... we didn't give a definite answer and wanted to see if they would give it to us at that price... in the end, they were willing to give it to us at 88k, but we decided to look into a few more options and also perhaps a 08 or 09 s63...
if we could have gotten a better deal on the s550, probably have it right now...
problem is finding one... i hope i can find some help here on mbw =)
since i've never purchased a car from another state... how would it go?
papers signed and sent by fax or fedex i'm assuming? credit checks over the phone shouldn't be that hard with the appropriate info...
i guess i'll look around for dealer sites in other states...
You can definitely find a new one for $25K off it just takes a little time. If you are willing to go to look into California, call South Bay MB or Anaheim MB. I know a few people on here have gotten $25K-$28K off from both of those. Or you can call fleetrates, I was quoted $23K off from them up front and they will arrange delivery.

I got my '09 2 months ago for a little over $60K, 4matic, P3+AMG+Prem Leather and CPO w/ 20k miles. Now, this was in the Boston area.. so maybe discounts are higher on the east coast, but I don't imagine they are that much deeper than some other area of the country.
also, do most people talk about car pricing as "out the door"?
does that mean with taxes and fees included? i've been negotiating with the list price before taxes...
i'm wondering if it's possible to work it into a deal
right now i'm getting $82.9k before taxes. with p2, amg sports package, and pano roof.
