Active multicontour seat failure

This option/function is kaput. Local MB says fault shows the driver side "bladder" is leaking. Pump in trunk area operating ok. I'm w/in time warr., but 9000 miles out, so fix is mine. The stealership sa estimates $1400 to fix. That's not chump change for non-critical function.

Has anyone had this fail? Anyone use an indie to repair or is it too technical?

All opinions and advice solicited. Thanks.

EPC free subscription http://epc.startekinfo.com/epc/welcome.jsp
- pull VIN specific part #

STAR subscription ($18 for 24 hours) http://www.startekinfo.com/StarTek/
- pull install instructions from WIS

Part cost http://www.parts.com/oemCatalog/inde...D=2&makeid1=67

Independent should be able to perform repair at substantial savings.

My bottom seat cusion wasn't heating up. So dealer gave me a brand new bottom cusion. You should look into AAA extended warrenty.

I bought my S550 new and bought the 7 year 100k MB warranty thru my dealer. I thought it extended the standard warranty out to 100k. I had 65k and the drivers lumbar stopped working. I took the car in and the dealer told me that It was leaking and needed to be replaced, furthermore, the passenger side shoulder bladder was also leaking and it also needed to be replaced. Of course I thought it was a warranty item but the dealer told me the part numbers weren't covered under the warranty and it would be approximate 1k per seat to replace. I went up the ladder of command and they wouldn't budge. I had the drivers seat repaired and left the passenger side alone. I felt I was misled in that the extended warranty does not extend the original, but has it's own set of coverage limits. I'll know for next time.

That's disappointing MD does not include comprehensive warranty coverage when they are paid for the extended warranty. If they pick and choose what parts they cover what's the point in paying more for the MB warranty?

Anyone know of a better warranty for coverage over 50K miles that covers pretty much everything?

Do you have the AAA Warranty? Are you referring to the AAA Platinum plan?
