Media Interface Plus - Bluetooth Audio, Finally!

http://www.engadget.com/2010/10/20/m...riendly-bluet/

Just read about this thing today and went to buy one, mostly out of curiosity. It seems a bit kludgy and a bit of an afterthought, but it does work well (and sounds good) for streaming Bluetooth audio from my iPhone.

I'm still figuring out what it can do. Interestingly, it promises features for the future (verbal reading of emails etc.) that will be available by software upgrade that you can actually do yourself.

Unfortunately, it will not support iPhone video in the S-Class.

Has anyone else bought this odd thing?

You only need this kit to enable the functionality, you don't need the iPhone connector kit?

My wife's 2010 Lexus RX has the same functionality built in. It has one Bluetooth circuit for the mobile phone, and another separate Bluetooth circuit for the iPod. A very clever function, except she usually listens to XM Radio...

I wish the S had this. But then again, I'm usually listening to SIRIUS.

To use this, your car needs to already have the Media Interface built in, which gives iPod functionality with the (included) cable. Here's a compatibility list (warning: pdf download)

The MIP sort of kludges itself onto the iPod interface and offers its extra functions as "Playlists." That's the weirdest part about it.

It says its not compatible with 07 and 08 models but I bet Steve at MBenzNL can make it happen.

I just got pricing from a local dealer: $350 retail. They said you only need the MIP option on your COMAND system and it's plug and play.

Right. You need option 518 Media Interface. It's the multi-pin plug in the glove box that the iPod dongle connects to.

I paid $298.
